Book review: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

OUTLINE:
Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark won the annual competition described in Hunger Games, but the aftermath leaves these victors with no sense of triumph. Instead, they have become the poster boys for a rebellion that they never planned to lead. That new, unwanted status puts them in the bull's-eye for merciless revenge by The Capitol.

MY THOUGHTS:
Alright, I gave the series another try and read the second one. (I'm thrilled for the movie, but the first book just didn't sit with me the way it did with tons of other bloggers), but I wanted to be able to see why it's so well loved, and everyone continues to gush about it. Also because I told Lan I would try and read it. Thanks Lan for giving me that push I needed. When I start a series I like to finish it whether I like it or not well that's another story. Some series get better as they go on and others just kind of fizzle out.(I've read both kinds of series. Perhaps a topic for a later date.) With only 3 books though I figured it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and read it, and if I didn't like it well I'll deal. In my opinion it's better to have tried and failed then to not try at all. Humm that sounds like a famous quote huh?

Okay, so I just finished reading this like 30 minutes ago, and I will say that the ending took me by surprise. It also peaked my interest in the last book a little more to making me possibly read it within the next few days. So what's the damage done? Well I liked it a little better then the first, which is a little odd because it basically was a repeat of the first book with some twists thrown in here and there.  Holy hell did it take F-O-R-E-V-E-R to get anywhere though, and that drives me nuts. There's only so much of the victor thing that I could take I think if it weren't for knowing that a new set of games was coming, and me wanting to find out how Katniss got thrown back into them I might have given up. At first I thought I really don't care for the love triangle at all, and to some extent I still don't, but I feel really bad for Peeta right now. I think if I had more time with Gale I could get a better understanding on him, but again he wasn't in the book much so I'm like whatever. These games actually didn't seem as horrible as the other ones did. 

Anyways, I know this may have not been extrememly helpful, but if your looking for a rave review from me on this book/series it isn't going to happen. I'm one of the few that fall into the -non fan club- I enjoyed it, but I did not love it. So we shall see what the last book brings, and how I feel all together when it's over.
