Top Ten Fictional BFFs

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This meme was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

  1. Rose Hathaway- She's the kick-ass guardian from the Vampire Academy Series. She would do anything for her friends.
  2. Lissa Dragmoir- The royal princess in the VA Series
  3. Sophie Mercer- The witch from Hex Hall.
  4. Ethan Wate- Beautiful Creatures- He was there for Lena even when everyone else in the town was against her.
  5. Calla- Nightshade
  6. Alisa- The thirst series
  7. Ever- The immortal series
  8. Any of the girls in the babysitters club (Kristy, Maryann, Dawn, Stacey, Mallory those are the ones I can think of)
  9. Bianca from the Evernight Series
  10. Mimi from the Blue Blood series because somewhere deep down she can be nice. or Aphrodite from HoN they both are kinda the same.

Who are your top 10 BFFS?

It's that time again. (Rant)

As you noticed I finished reading Personal Demons. Such a good book if you haven't read it I highly suggest you do! As for my next read I chose In A Heartbeat by Loretta Ellsworth. One because it's not paranormal (I need a paranormal break for a bit before LS) Two because it's a small book. Three seems like it would mean something to me. I didn't actually have a heart transplant, but I did have heart surgery when I was younger 6 to be exact. So yeah. I just went to amazon and ordered 3 books. *hangs head down low* I know...I know.

Work sucked today! We were busy and people were very grumpy. There's only so much I can do when everybody comes at once!

Oh I'm also working on my secret santa gift thingy. I'm excited I sometimes go overboard. Oh well!
Sorry I don't have much more to say. I'm tired and I need to go to sleep seeing as how I have to be up at 10am. Blah! I think I'm going to go to sleep watching Sex and the city 2. So here's to everyone...Have a goodnite!

Personal Demons Review

AUTHOR: Lisa Desrochers
PUBLISHER: Tor Teen
PAGES: 364
SERIES/STAND ALONE: Series (Original Sin #2, Hellbent #3)

OUTLINE: Frannie Cavanaugh is a good Catholic girl with a bit of a wicked streak. She's spent years keeping everyone at a distance—even her closest friends—and it seems her senior year will be more of the same...until Luc Cain enrolls in her class. No one knows where he came from, but Frannie can't seem to stay away from him. What she doesn't know is that Luc works in Acquisitions—for Hell—and she possesses a unique skill set that has the King of Hell tingling with anticipation. All Luc has to do is get her to sin, and he’s as tempting as they come. Frannie doesn’t stand a chance.

Unfortunately for Luc, Heaven has other plans, and the angel, Gabe, is going to do whatever it takes to make sure that Luc doesn’t get what he came for. And it isn't long before they find themselves fighting for more than just her soul.

But if Luc fails, there will be Hell to pay…for all of them

MY THOUGHTS:
OMG! I mean what else is there to say. I know it took me a bit to read this, (it usually take 2 or 3 days I haven't been in my reading mode Sorry!) I finally sat down earlier, and thought okay I'm going to read a few chapters. That didn't happen I read the whole thing from page 170 (that's where I left off a few days ago) I think it was just that after reading some I wanted to finish the book and see what happened with Luc, Gabe, and Frannie. I'm so happy I did too. I loved it mucho.

The little outline-y thing pretty much tells you what the story is about. I don't see a need to go into details on that because usually if I do that. I pretty much make a spoiler review, and I hate that.

The book is told in two perspectives (I like big words, POV just sounds boring. lol) those being Lucifer aka Luc, our darling demon from the fiery pits, and our not-so catholic school girl, Mary Frances better known as Frannie. I'm usually not fond of this just because I find that it's hard to read, but Lisa's way worked really well. I actually could follow along quite well. You got to feel what both the characters were feeling about the same thing at the same time, but not so much. Does that make sense? If not sorry you just have to read it to know I guess.

I liked Frannie as a character most the time (sometimes I did get mad at her for not just picking Luc or Gabe because truthfully I probably couldn't either) I wished at times she would just say why she was feeling so guilty and let it go, but that was part of the story so all is well. :)

Luc he started off as a bad-ass, cocky, know it all demon. Later down the pages he softened some not much. I wanna demon like him! I can't say to much because I don't wanna give much away about him, and what happens.

Gabe was the angel and I was actually sad to see that he didn't have a bigger part then he did. I really would have liked to know more about him. At times he did kind of seem like a butt-head, but he's an angel so he knew where his place was, and knew not to get mixed up to much with Frannie. Just enough to try and keep her "safe". Here's to hoping he'll have a bigger part in the next book.

The other characters were pretty good too. Although I really wanted to hit Taylor sometimes. She was definitely a "B". Riley on the other was the complete and total opposite. Like they say though opposites attract. (It's funny cause my friend and I are like that) (Oh also it's funny too I have two cousins that are sisters whose names happen to be Taylor and Riley. Just a sidenote)

The ending I was thrilled with although it was not what I was expecting it most definitely was a plus. :) If you're confused or don't know if you want to read this. I whole heartly suggest it. You'll be wanting your own Angel and Demon after you meet these two. :)  I know I do. There's no way in Hell  (pun SO intended) I could choose between these two. I know in some books you can somewhat form a side you like better. I can honestly say I can't do that in this one.

MEMORABLE QUOTES:
-If there's hell on Earth, it's High school. (Luc) This was the opening line to the book.

-She's got more wrinkles then a shar-pei (Luc)

-So maybe that's my problem I need pink hair. (Luc)

-There's no crying in baseball, and no love in Hell. (Luc)

-Unholy Hell (Luc) He says this alot I thought it was cute. :)

-Because I love her, but can't have her (Luc) Poor Lucifer!

-If you have power to transform shit-for-brains over here (Gabe) For an angel he's awesome.

-So all those kids digging to China are in for one Hell of a suprise (Frannie)
Literally (Luc)

-That's like saying I beat you in poker cause I stacked the deck, but you're glad I have all you're money. (Frannie)

-You've got archangels quaking in their boots (Gabe) This reminded me of Supernatural for some reason.

-Are you done beating me up? (Luc)
Are you done pissing me off? (Frannie) Ok so this one was within a scene that I literally laughed out loud at. They were pulled over on the side of the road from something that Frannie had told him. Some car had stopped to see if she was okay having just pushed Luc down it looked like they were fighting. Its just funny cause Luc smiles and laughs through it all and then Frannie realizes it looks funny and starts laughing too. Poor guy in the car was confused. Anyways, loved this scene.

-Tag you're it (Frannie) This was by far my favorite quote. You have to read to find out why. :P

Here are my little scribbley notes I took while reading it. Mostly the quotes I like. I'm weird. Yes!

Don't you love rants?

I should totally be doing reviews right now, but I'm procrastinating 'tis what I do best really. I just thought about this before I actually did any kind of reading. I wrote poems and made website alot. That was back in high school and middle school. I still have those sites too, although they haven't been worked on since...forever.

Here are some:
Darkness Within Me (My um more depressing days)
Midnight Rayne (another personal one)
Brat 4 ever (Yeah another)
A Cry for Help (My poem site)(It's not actually done though I should probably work on that)

I know I have many many more. I'm serious about this giveaway to. I think what I'll do when the time comes is i'll just let whoever wins pick a book they want from amazon. I'll order it and I'll ship it to you myself. I know I'm more of an unconventional doer type person.

You know how I said I might have a bad day today because of who I was working with. I didn't it was good actually are conversation topics were a little ummm off the wall. First he was tryin to tell me words in spanish by just puttting O's at the end. (like small-o) That is what I deal with. Then in a drastic convo change we went to multiplying (I'm not talking math) He was telling me how it was in the bible. We are very professional at our job can you tell? (no worries nobody was around) It was a good day. Then I got to see my Cali friend for a bit (she's on a break here).

I think I'm done with my rant of such epic proportions. :)

I'm not sure what you would call this, but it's awesome. In so many ways it's true. Know how to be independent even if it's not necessary right now. The furture can always change, and it's nice to know that you could take care of your own self. :) It's not fun having to be dependent on others. I hate having to borrow money from family and friends. If you know me at all you know it's something I try very hard not to do because reguardless if they're your family and friends you still have to pay them back, and then your still dependent on them. Anyways, sorry that wasn't the point in me posting this. I just liked it. :)

My Weekly Random Rant

I really don't have much to say this week. Shocking huh? I am ready for another day off though which won't be until Wed now. Blah! I'm SO ready to be back at my own house, with my own bed, and my own everything. Don't get me wrong I love my mom (and the ineternet I get here) but almost a month here I'm getting irritated. I guess it's my own fault though if I would stop with the books. I'm currently reading Personal Demons by Lisa D. It's good so far. :) I'm gonna try and finish it so I can re-read 3 and 4 of the Vampire academy series to be ready for LAST SACRIFICE! on dec 7th. Also so I can get those to reviews up since they're the only two I have yet to put up.

I was a little bored when I got home earlier so I was looking around on Goodreads mainly the quotes. I love a good quote. Here are some I found dealing with books

  • "You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them."
Ray Bradbury I put this one up because it kind of pissed me off. So I'm not to fond of this quote!
  • "When I have a little money, I buy books; and if I have any left, I buy food and clothes."
    Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus
Someone showed me this one on one of my comments awhile back, but it truly fits me. :)
  • "The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame."
    Oscar Wilde
This reminds me of the Speak book.
  • "You get a little moody sometimes but I think that's because you like to read. People that like to read are always a little fucked up."
Pat Conroy (The Prince of Tides)
I thought this was a little cute. :)
  • "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read."
    Groucho Marx (The Essential Groucho)
    This made me laugh.
  • "A room without books is like a body without a soul."
    Marcus Tullius Cicero
  • "I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book." Groucho Marx
I totally remember what else I was gonna say on here. Sorry I had a brain fart. :) I'm almost to 100 followers (Yea!) So if (well not if but when) I get to 100 followers I'm thinking I might have to do a giveaway. (Maybe I'll make it a little more. We'll see) Still just know that the thought is in my head. (my pretty little thick head) If I do it I'm going to pick the winner a little differently. No random.org! I'll do it the old fashioned way, the name in a hat (or bowl) actually and video camera it. Deal...Deal! Let's see what happens! So I get to work Saturday with the pharmacist that pissed me off last week. Let's see how well this goes. *sigh*

The last one is Shimmer by Alyson Noel it's the second book in the Radiance series(Riley Bloom Series) due Mar 15,2011 I liked this one because the colors are beautiful in it. Wings Review

AUTHOR: Aprilynne Pike
PUBLISHER: HarperTeen
PAGES: 294
STAND ALONE/SERIES: Series (Wings book 1, Spells book 2, Illusions book 3)

OUTLINE:
Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful—too beautiful for words.
Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.
In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.

STARTED: 11-21-10
FINISHED: 11-23-10

MY THOUGHTS:
I've read some peoples reviews on this, and it has been mixed. Some like..some don't. After seeing that My Enchanted Rambling liked it and I commented, and she told me I should see for myself. I've had the book for awhile now, and I haven't read any Faery books that I can remember so I did, and I'm definitely glad. I can honestly say I want to read the second one to learn more about Laurel, and the 3rd when it comes out next year.

At first it seemed to start off kind of slow, but probably about half way through it started to get interesting. I was wanting to know what happened with the characters more and more. Here's the low-down...Laurel was adopted when she was 3. She was left on the doorstep of her parents house in a basket none the less. How funny is that? A 3 year old in a basket. Anyways, later on in the book you learn who left her there and why..kind of. By age 15 her parents move them to a new city where she's put into a public school. (She's been homeschooled all her young life) There she meets David. Yes, there's a boy in the story, or two. :) During the story Laurel notices something on her back, but what it is she doesn't know. At first she thinks it's just a zit, just a normal teenage thing. She meets Tamani, a very different kind of boy, who let's her in on what she is. What she finds out kind of throws her for a loop. :) There lies our love triangle now. We just love those love triangles. From there on other things start happening. I don't want to really go more into it. let's just say her dad starts getting sick, some creepy realtor guy shows up, and she continues to learn of her heritage. I love the river scene it's pretty intense. I mean you know pretty much somethings going to happen, but until it does your holding your breath like OMG! I know I'm kind of wacky with the reviews. I give a little and your stuck wondering more right? Just nod and agree.

The MC is Laurel, she's seems like a down to earth, sweet kind of girl who would do anyhting for her friends. In the begining of the story she doesn't have many friends because she's been home-schooled, but she soon makes friends, David and Chelsea, at her new school. She also meets a strange and exoctic boy in the woods by her old house. I really didn't have to many problems with her as a character. She's a 15 year old so annoying habits, and whiney-ness comes with the territory. I had a hard time figuring out who I would like to see her with either David or Tamani. Both are guys that seem to like her and want to be with her.

David is the best friend she meets when she moves to her new school, and is the one person who she can turn to with her most prized secret. I actually feel sorry for him because he's kind in that rut where your the best friend but you would rather be more. He shows he truly cares about her when they go snooping around places they shouldn't be, or gets in to trouble with his mom for staying out. Like I said I'm torn between both guys so I wouldn't know what to do for Laurel.

Tamani our exoctic boy from another realm. He is Laurel's protector we find out and has been since she was little. Like David it seems he would do just about anything for Miss Laurel too. There's also more to Laurel and his relationship then Laurel knows. We have ourselves the exoctic, mysterious boy.

Then we have the story's other character, Chelsea who's David friends but soon becomes Laurel's, she's a very blunt person. If she has something on her mind she says it. Then you have Laurel's parents, her mom who doesn't believe in doctors or medicine (just herbel, natural stuff), and her dad who owns a bookstore (how cool is that, I wanna bookstore), Then David's mom who's the opposite of Laurel's parents, she's a pharmacist at a drugstore. ( I love this because I work in a pharmacy) Then there's Barnes (the supposed realtor), and his sidekicks Scarface and Red (That should tell you something).

MEMORABLE QUOTES:
-Typical mom advice sweet, honest, and completely useless. (laurel)
-What? (laurel)
It's just well, it kinda makes sense. (David)
Some crazy guy claims I'm a mythical creature, and that makes sense to you. (Laurel)
-How do I give you tissue samples? (Laurel)
We could get epithelial cells from your cheek like they do on CSI. (David)
CSI? you're going to investigate me now? (Laurel)
-Laurel, David? Would you like to share the joke with the rest of the class? (Teacher)
No,Sir...but thank you for asking. (David)
David, one. Teacher who wishes he was as smart as david? Zero. (Laurel thinking it)
-You know after I got done thinking you were a crazy homeless guy. (Laurel to Tamani)
-We like things that sparkle you, know. (Tamani)
Laurel thought of the glass prisms she had strung across her bedroom window years ago. I thought that was just a personal preference. (Laurel)
-Eye of Hecate, do neither of you know how to follow directions? (Tamani)
Apparently not. (Laurel)
-I'm getting pretty tired of the way you drive me like a slave in that bookstore. I have rights you know. He added with a laugh. (David)

EXTRAS:
This is another one of the bookcover actually like this one. It's more sparkley (at least it looks that way). I believe this is the paperback one so if I go the way I'm going if I see it in paperback I'm liable to get it. It kind of goes better with the books theme too. Although the cover I have above has it's importance to the book as well. :)

Have you read the book if so what'd you think?

Spirit Bound Review

AUTHOR: Richelle Mead
PUBLISHER: Penguin/Razorbill
PAGES: 489
STAND ALONE/SERIES: Series book 5 (Vampire Academy 1, frostbite 2, shadow kissed 3, blood promise4, and last sacrifice 6)

OUTLINE:  After a long and heartbreaking journey to Dimitri’s birthplace in Siberia, Rose Hathaway has finally returned to St. Vladimir’s—and to her best friend, Lissa Dragomir. It's graduation, and the girls can’t wait for their real lives outside of the Academy’s cold iron gates to finally begin. But even with the intrigue and excitement of court life looming, Rose’s heart still aches for Dimitri. He's out there, somewhere.

But Rose can't forget what she learned on her journey—whispers of a magic too impossible and terrifying to comprehend. A magic inextricably tied to Lissa that could hold the answer to all of Rose's prayers, but not without devastating consequences. Now Rose will have to decide what—and who—matters most to her. In the end, is true love really worth the price?

STARTED: 5-18-2010
FINISHED: 5-20-2010

MY THOUGHTS:
This is the 5th book in the Wonderful/awesomeness series they call the Vampire Academy (One more to go after this so sad) I can't actually say when I finished reading this all I know is I got it when it came out and probably had it done in a day or so because one night I read for like 5 or so hours. Crazy right? I had to know what happened, and let's just say I was freaking shocked as hell. Poor Rose definitely is in a bit of a bind now. This book was action packed and fast moving from the beginning something that as you I have to have or I can't read it usually. If I do I have to go back to it after I quit reading it. Anyways that's not the point. I loved this book alot it wasn't like all academy or all away from the academy. The beginning started off with a letter from Dimitri. Hummmm? Then it went on to the guardians trials and needless to say Rose totally kicked ass. Down the road though was one of Rose's crazy plans to break our lovely Mr. Victor out of some high tech security prison. So Rose, Lissa, and Eddie (I believe) set off to do the unthinkable.  That alone in itself was awesome. I mean totally intense action scenes with the Prison Guardians. After that happened they all settled on going to Vegas. There was some fun times there, and who would she run into but Strigoi and Dimitri. While in Vegas there were a few fight scenes. That ended up losing them some people. Take from that what you will. When they got back to the court. They were in some trouble for sure, but they had also brought back someone else. I can't so this without giving alot a way, and I don't like too. I'm going to stop there.

I loved the twists and turns that Richelle Mead brought to the book. One minute you think you know what's going on and then it's something completely different. She wrote it in such a way that everything that Rose and her friends do makes complete sense (for a vampire book anyways) It's not just thrown together to make everything turn out the way it's suppose to. I have to say the ending of the book had me wanting Last Sacrifice to come out right then. It's one of those kinds of cliffhangers you want to just throw the book and be like NOOOO. WTH happens!

MEMORABLE QUOTES:
-You're lucky you aren't one of the first ones. People were even making bets about whether you'd show. (Stan)
Really? What kind of odds are there on that because I can still change my mind and put down my own bet. make a little pocket money. (Rose)
-I think I can guess who. I just called her a sanctimonius bitch. (Rose about the queen)
-A journey. (Rhonda)
I was just on a journey a few of them. Man this isn't like a spiritual journey is it? (Rose)
Rose I wish you'd get tarot reading everyday. (Ambrose)
-I can't believe you just used the word intel this really is turning into a spy movie (Lissa)
-I'm suprised they let you back I'm after you took off on your little killing spree, or did you get extra credit (Mia)
-Hey we're just happy to see you.(Rose)
I believe you, but I also believe you have an ulterior motive. (Mia)
What makes you say that. Can you read rose that well, or do you just always assume she has an ulterior motive. (Lissa)
Both. (Mia)
-I kinda like hanging out with them. They think I'm funnier than I am. (Adrian)
-I'd really like to know how he keeps his 2 mistresses  a secret from his wife. (Adrian)
-This college would probably have the same problem the last one did. (Adrian)
What's that? (Rose)
Homework. (Adrian)
-I don't really need a job or extra money after rose and i get married, the kids and I will just live off of her guardian pay check. (Adrian) (If only we could see the way his parents looked at him when he said this)
-Everyone who worked here was going to have a concussion by the time we were through. (Rose)
-Holding this ones gona be hard (Lissa)
Hard as in 5minutes or 5 hours (Rose)
Somewhere in the middle. (Lissa) (That totally helps right?)
-As hard as it is to believe we didn't do this just because we missed your pleasent company (Rose)
That is hard to believe (Victor)
-Good God are we getting the senior citizen special (Rose)
-Did you know that Victor Dashkov is sitting on your bed? (Adrian)
-It was you wasn't it? You broke into a maxium security prison with Eddie (Adrian)
Must not have been all that secure (Rose)
-There's no way to save Strigoi. when they're gone they're dead. undead forever. (Adrian to rose)
That which is dead doesn't always stay dead. (Victor)
-I told you I'd find you (Dimitri)

-My Eternity doesn't involve being part of the undead mafia (Rose)
-I'd have a new mantra- A comes first then B,C,D (Rose)
-Where else are you going to find a pirate-themed hotel and bartenders who don't card. (Rose)
-Why do you care so much about bringing dimitri back. I mean I know you liked him,but you don't quite have the same motivation as Rose does. (Lissa)
-I've seen you knock on a door handle harder than you're hitting me. (Christian)
That's a ridiculous metaphor. (Lissa)
-Trying to figure it out was like being on a hamster wheel, alot of work and no progress. (Rose)
-You're beautiful in battle, like an avenging angel come to deliver the justice of Heaven (Dimitri)
Funny...that is kinda why I am here. (Rose)
Angels fall Rose. (Dimitri)
-Was it fatherly love gone bad? Was he really all that good a lawyer? And at the end of the day, was it true that blood ran thicker than water. I didn't know. I actually didn't like that saying. Maybe, it worked for humans but it made no sense with vampires. (Rose)
-Don't you think that if God can forgive you it's kind of egotistical for you not to forgive yourself. (Rose)
How long have you been waiting to use that line on me.(Dimitri)
Actually it just came to me. Pretty good huh? I bet you thought I wasn't paying attention. (Rose)
You weren't..you never do, you were paying attention to me. (Dimitri)
-Love fades, mine has (Dimitri) This was probably the most heartbreaking quote in the whole series. I was so sad fo Rose
-You forget I have an addictive personality. I'm addicted to you. Somehow I think you could do all sorts of bad things to me, and I'd still come back to you. (Adrian to Rose)

My day has been fun, but expensive!

Well I've had a fun day of being off. I have spent money today boy, but that's okay alot of it was for my secret santa on here ( I go over board sometimes). Hopefully what I got is good. Also I bought a few things for my mom for Christmas. I got her some I love lucy coasters, I love lucy shot glasses and some I love lucy postcards. Can you tell she loves I love Lucy stuff. It's funny to because that is what I have gotten her the past few years are different lucy things. Usually, I get her a Lucy doll from walmart but I don't know if they have one this year or not.

I did however get me some books from HPB. I got 4 of them and some bookmarks and some postcards that are adorable. Those will all be in my mailbox next week. I always do that go out the day after and buy more. Okay so I got back from the other HPB a few hours ago, and I spent 50 bucks there I got like ten different books. That's one thing about series once you have a few of them you got to have them all. Needless to say I found like 4 books in a series I started that has 12 books so I'm getting closer to completing it though I have 1,2,3,4,7,10,11. Then I got a book I already had in hardback but I got the paperback because their different. What am I going to do with myself? I didn't think I would do that, but I did. I'm getting a little OCD with books I think.  I almost did this with the Frostbite book in the VA Series too because they had a different but I didn't cuz they were sorta similar. Like I said all these lovely things will def be on IMM next week.

Are any of you like me and buy books you have but with different covers?

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Movie

I know this is book site, but seeing how technically this is also a book I'm putting it up here. :)
Well I'm one of the many crazy people probably who went to the Thursday midnight showing of the movie. (I honestly thought more peole would be dressed up but I only saw a few) My Sister in Law and me got to the theatre at 9 because I didn't get off til 830. Anyways by the time we got there they were letting people in so we didn't have to wait in line outside in the cold windy air. Apparently all the theatres were playing the movie too and they were all sold out. Who would've thought? So we sat there patiently waiting for 12 to come around. Ten minutes before it was time you heard everypne yelling "ten more minutes" then 5minutes came same thing "5 more minutes" It was great. As soon as it started everyone was yelling. Craziness I tell you!

Don't worry I'm not going to give anything away because well I'm not. I will say that alot of the stuff I had completely forgotten about. That's sad! I'm thinking maybe I need to go back and read the book before I see part 2 next year which I hate by the way. I don't want to have to wait for next June or July whenever it's coming out. :(  I thought that it would be a lot darker then it was. It actually had the theatre laughing alot. It has most the characters you love to hate, and then some. It basically is Harry, Ron , and Hermione traveling to find the Horocuxes (I think I spelled that wrong oh well) and wrapped in that there's some action, saddness, and romance.

I can already tell you I'll be seeing again because I told a friend of mine I'd go with her. There's some movies that are worth the price to see again.

Part 2 you must hurry and get here!!!!!!

So have you seen it yet? If so how many times do you plan on seeing it?

The Hunger Games Review

AUTHOR: Suzanne Collins
PUBLISHER: Scholastic
PAGES: 374
STAND ALONE/SERIES: Series (Hunger games 1,Catching fire 2,Mockinjay 3)

OUTLINE:
Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with every one out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

STARTED: In October
FINISHED: 11-21-2010

MY THOUGHTS:
Alright I know I started this back in October sometime and it's taking me this long to finish. I will say this after I picked it back up again I stayed with it til the end and it only took me a week or so to finish it after my intial start.

My reason for stopping it was I couldn't really get into like the first 100 pages or so to me were extrememly boring. I know it told about the characters (mainly just Katniss)and some about Gale, but still I like my books to start off good, and it didn't happen til Part 2 which was the actual games. That was page 130 or something. After the games actually started though it became a little more interesting to me. I liked being able to see the Peeta/Katniss thing. It did irritate me to find things out about Peeta though. Reading through the games was actually really interesting how the tributes interacted with each other. Throughout the games I was cheering for Katniss and Peeta both though, even though I knew the outcome. One part made me sad though with one of the tributes. It shouldn't have suprised me because I watched the video that was made on youtube so it spoiled it for me but still. It was actually a very good video. This was actually my frist Dystopian book to read maybe I just need to read a few more to like them a little better. I don't know.

I liked the main character Katniss Everdeen. She was brave to take her younger sisters spot at the reaping. I honestly don't know if I could have done it. I'm a bit of a chicken. Would you have been able to sacrifice yourself for someone you loved? I like she's a very strong character and refuses to give up, and of course defies authority. What good character doesn't do that? Her emotions throughout the book jumped around too. From Gale to Peeta to her family to the tributes, her mentor and others. I like being able to see that characters can have emotion it makes you feel for them. All in all I'm not really sure who I want to see Katniss end up with. Humm? Guess I'll have to read on.

At first I wasn't really feeling Peeta just because alot of the stuff he did made me mad. How could he treat Katniss the way he did, but then I forgave him. That didn't really last long though because of the other stuff that happened. Stupid Peeta. I guess he had he's reasons though because who could compete with Gale a lifelong friend of Katniss'.

I can't really say much about Gale because he was only  in the book for a few chapters so it didn't give me a whole lot of time to like or dislike him, but from what was in the book I liked. He was apparently crushing on Katniss. :)

The other characters: Haymitch Katniss and Peeta's Mentor who was the only one to win the games from District 12. Effie who well I can't remember who she was but she was with them at the capitol, very snotty woman too. I kind of wanted to hit her. The Capitol, the authority, didn't like them at all. Rue, she seemed like a cute little character and a good friend to someone. That's about all the characters I can think of that
mattered.

FYI- This was cool I was sitting in the line for Harry Potter, and was about to read the book some, and some guy started asking me if I liked the book and what I thought about it. He said he needed to read it, or was going to I don't remember exactly. It kind of through me for a loop. I had to be honest with him though. I told him it was a little slow at first but ok. :) I know I'm a total dork.

MEMORABLE QUOTES:
-What's your name? (Gale)
Katniss. (Katniss)
Well catnip, stealings punishable by death, or hadn't you heard? (Gale)
-See, like this. I'm smiling at you even though you're aggravating me. (Effie)
Yes, it's very convincing. (Katniss)
-Then lie make something up (Haymitch)
I'm not good at lying. (katniss)
Well you better learn fast. You got as much charm as a dead slug. (Haymitch)
-Stupid people are dangerous (Katniss)
-How's everything with you? (Katniss,in a tree talking to other tributes below)
Well enough. Yourself? (District 2 boy)
It's been a bit warm for my taste, but the air's better up here. Why don't you come on up? (Katniss)
I think I will. (District 2 boy)
(I loved this little exchange between them because you can tell she's taunting them)

BOOKCOVER:
This is the german bookcover to the hunger games. I actually like this one alot better. :)

I gave it 3 out of 5. Just for the fact at I stopped at the beginning because like I said I was uniterested at first.

So I'm curious did anyone else fill the same way as me? Or am I the only one? I know alot of reviews I read everyone loves it. :(

Follow Friday (6) Blog Hop (5)

Blog Hop question:

"Since Thanksgiving is coming up next week, let's use this week's Hop to share what we are most thankful for and what our holiday traditions are!"

I'm thankful for being able to have a good job, a roof over my head, and family that loves and would do anything for me. I know it may seem kind of obvious, but with the way our economy is and I see how it affects people (family and customers that come to my store) I'm thankful for knowing that I will more than likely always have a job. I get to make people feel better too by giving them the meds. (I'm a Pharmacy Tech).
Also, I said my apartment that should go without saying why I'm thankful for that. :)
Then my family without them I don't know where I would be. They have done so much for me over the years it's so great. My mom helping me pay some bills even when she didn't have the money herself, my grandpa for paying off my car so that I would have one. My brother and his family for being there when I needed someone to talk too.

Holiday traditions when I was younger we would always go over my grandparents house for lunch, watch our "lovely Cowboys" play and my uncles, cousins, and I would go out in the streets and play our own football for awhile this was our thanksgiving. Christmas was different we'd go over granparents and eat dinner, have santa come and bring the grandkids gifts (he wasn't a family member either. I think maybe a next door neighbor is what we all always thought. We never did find out) Then we would go to church and hour then go back and open our gifts there. The past for years it hasn't been that way so much.

How long have you been book blogging??

I started at the end of Septemeber. So I haven't been doing it very long, but I've already met some really nice people. :)  It would be cool to meet people in the Texas area. Preferably Ft worth, but anywhere in Texas is cool. :) Even outta states are cool.

Leave me a line and drop by and say hi too.
FYI: I loved the Harry Potter movie.

Paranormalcy Review

AUTHOR: Kiersten White
PUBLISHER: HarperTeen
PAGES: 335
SERIES/STANDALONE: Series (book 2 supernaturally)

OUTLINE:
Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.
But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
So much for normal.

STARTED: 11-14-2010
FINISHED: 11-16-2010

MY THOUGHTS: OMG! that's all I'm saying I loved this book. Like really loved it. I can't wait for the 2nd one to come out. I love Keirsten's writing style. To me there's something a little different about it. I don't know. Maybe it's because I also like to read what she writes in her blogs and it's always funny. I love to be able to laugh at stuff. I love the funny moments in books when you actually can laugh out loud at something the character does or says, and I had a ton of those moments in the book. The whole bleeping things.... awesome. There was no need for cussing. :) One thing I like about these kind of books is they don't just stick to one type of paranormal while I don't have a problem with books being just vampires or just werewolves. I like the mix,and this book definitely had the mix from weres, vampires, shapeshifters, mermaids, faeries, a hag (I've never seen hag that I can remember in a recent book), another kind of water paranormal :). Yea for all paranormals! I like all the side notes too. You know the parenthesis thing. I do it to when I'm writing things on here. Oh and the titles for chapters you don't see many books with title chapters anymore. :(  Have a bleep bleep day, and dumbells, boys, and other dense things are a few.

I loved just about every character that was in the book.

The main character Evie did seem a little ditzy to me at times but that's okay. All her other qualities made up for it. She works for the IPCA (International Paranormal Containment agency) as a bag and tag girl, mainly because she can see through all paranormals glamours. She had been doing that for as long as she could remember, and before the agency she just went from foster home to foster home. I loved how she had her weapon Tasey all pink and sparkly. Her fascination with school lockers funny!

Lend oh our darling Lend I love his character too. I want him and Evie to be together. It took me a bit to figure out what he actually was. I know stupid me right. I definitely think I'd rather have him for a boyfriend then a faerie. Sorry Reth.

Reth bad boy faerie in all. I know there's got to be that one bad boy out of the lot and he was that. Popping out of nowhere and frightening poor Evie. I have to admit I do like how he's not as mean as I anticipated him being.

There are others, but like always I found these to be the most mainish (Is this a word?) characters. You also had the director, Raquel of IPCA I like that she didn't have to say much for Evie to know her feelings she could tell by the sighs. "Raquel sighed. She was a professional sigher-the woman conveyed more emotions with a single exhalation than most people do with their entire faces" Believe me there's plenty of sighing from her. :), There was also Lish, a mermaid, and Evie's Best friend. She was cool. Then Jacques the werewolf a bodyguard, and then people that know Lend. Oh and the fire girl. (figure out what that means yeah) So yeah there's quite a bit of characters.

This book always had me wondering what was next.

In case you don't have the book this is the back cover to paranormalcy. I kinda like it.

I cannot wait for supernaturally to come out. :)

MEMOARBLE QUOTES:
- We spent the rest of the morning conjugating. (a word that sounds dirty but is in fact boring)-Evie
-Silver Knives.(Bud)
Tasey! Hot pink and sparkly (Evie)
-I can't believe I made a pink knife. (Bud)
It's so cute I love it. Finally a companion worthy of Tasey (Evie)
-Seriously did I look like some sort of psycho assassin? Maybe it was the pink sneaker or the heart earrings (Evie)
-Don't be flattered--most of your competition is dead (Evie to Lend)
-Oh relax if he wanted to kill me he already would have. I brought him all these sharp pencils, ideal for stabbing and he's been a perfect gentleman (Evie to Raquel)
-It's a glamourless life. My favorite joke hurt tonight. (Evie)
-it was like a bad set up to a joke or something. A doctor, two werewolfs, and vampire walk into a bar. what'll you have the bartender asks. We were thinking him the vampire answers eyeing the doctor. (Evie)
-What a lovely balance. Lend shows whatever he wants the world to see, and you see through whatever the world wants to show you. (Cresseda)
-How would you like to come to school tomorrow with me and see a real live locker? (Lend)
I'm pretty sure I squealed (Evie)
-No, you're officially band from listening to us. Or thinking about this or even thinking about thinking about this. (David to Lend and Evie)

Sorry I know I have more quotes butt I'm not sure where I wrote them down so if I find them. I shall put them up.

Let me know what you think!

STARTED: 2009
FINISHED: 2009

MY THOUGHTS:
I'm slowly but surely working on the VA reviews :)
As you can see the next book in this awesomenss of a series is Frostbite. Yes I said awesomeness. I've read it at least 3 times.
The book starts off with Rose and Dimitri getting ready to go for some training with an awesome gaurdian out at one of the rich moroi's family homes. When they get there though, it's anything but cool. A family and guardians gone. So what happened? Strigoi attacks in mid daylight? How's that possible that's what Rose and the others guardians and everyone want to know. Now that the academy and everyone are on high alert the ski trip is mandatory. They think it's the safest place for everyone to be, but is it really?

I love this book, and I hated it.

Let me explain a little as to not give away a whole lot from the book.

I love the book more then I hated it just to clear that up.

In this book we get to meet a few new characters ones which I love. First one Adrian Ivashkov, a spoiled rich kid, whose related to Queen Tatiana. Oh but is he awesome. He might be just as nutty as Rose is, someone who could actually put up with her. Needless to say when he meets Rose he is definitely hooked I guess you could say. Later throughout the book we learn a couple more things about him. Sorry can't tell you. Just read it. Now that he's in the picture who do we choose Adrian or Dimitri? What a hard choice. I want a little bit of both please. Second, character Tasha Ozera, Christians Aunt, I started to like her then I hated her so I don't know which it is. She's kind of one of the characters you love to hate. She does a few things that irritate me, but I just told myself it's okay everything will work out. The third Character is the great Janine Hathaway, Rose's Guardian mom, the scenes between her and her daughter are hilarious. The fighting, the sarcasm, it's great. Those were my main fave new characters. So if there were others I don't remember. Sorry.

Once Rose finds somethings out from Dimitri at the ski resort about where the Strigoi might be she's mad enough at him to go and tell some of her guardians-in-training friends the locations. What happens after that well what do you think? A bunch of teenagers ready to kick butt. We know exactly what's going to happen. Hunting time! So as 3 of them (Mia,Mason,Eddie) set out to find the undead dead vampires, Rose and Christian have to set off to find them 3 and what happens in that house is anyones guess. Let's just that's where my hate comes in. :)

I like to try and leave a little guessing for people in my reviews I hate telling so much that something might be said so if this review seems weird. My bad!

MEMORABLE QUOTES:
- I sometimes act before I think. I'm getting better at avoiding this, but when something sets me off I tend to punch first and then find out who I actually hit later. When it comes to those I care about being in danger well rules seem opitional (Rose)
-If you would turn off this crap music and put on something that came out after the berlin wall came down (Rose)
Your worst class is history yet somehow you know everything about eastern europe (Dimitri)
Hey gotta have material for my jokes Comrade. (Rose)
-Canadian geese are deadlier then Vipers (rose)
You ever try to fee those little bastards. They're vicious. You get thrown to vipers you die quickly, but the geese that'll go on for days. (Mason)
Wow I don't know whether I should be impressed or frightened you've thought about this. (Rose)
-If you teach me to swear in russian I might have a new appreciation for it. (Rose)
You swear to much already (Dimitri)
I just want to express myself (rose)
-Don't you think this time of the year is for forgiveness (Dimitri)
This isn't a christmas special. This is my life. In the real world miracles and goodness just don't happen. (rose)
-okay just stop this for once(rose)
Stop what (dimitri)
The whole profound zen crap thing.  You don't talk to me like a real person. Everything you say is just some wise life lesson nonsense. You really do sound like a christmas special (Rose)
- Some of the best things in life happen while sweating (adrian)
- You're one of those people who either have soulmates or mortal enemies aren't you? No in betweens. (adrian)
- I might as well have been working the corner as far as she was concerned. (Rose)

There you have it. Book 2 in the VA series.

Can I ever have a good day? (random rant)

I have to get this out somewhere, and I figured what better place then here. Besides, my "personal blog" that is. This is my rant for the week. That is unless my week keeps going this wonderful way *note sarcasm* Minor cussing just FYI.

I'm telling you I'm not having a very good week right now. Let's just start off by saying that Monday I had to work right...well two people call in one that was suppose to work in the morning with me and then one that was suppose to work at night. I'm sorry but I come to work feeling shitty almost all the time. Sides killing me, congested, feeling like I'm going barf. Do I ever call in? No because I know how much of a hassle it is for my co-workers. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying come to work deathly ill, but when you make it a habit to do it. It gets a little old. I'm also sure that unless your husband is dying (he's wasn't by the way) that calling in for that reason is stupid. So let's just say that in itself really pissed me off especially on a Monday in a Pharmacy. So be it that I was already in a bad mood why would someone (our pharmacist) sit there and tell the two of us that showed up that we weren't going fast enough, that we weren't doing it that right way, and that he'd rather have his other tech that can "do everything" here. Let me see what's wrong with this picture. One: the tech his refering to isn't as good as he thinks she is she leaves things just like the rest of us do. (I'm not tryin to be mean) Two: I DO NOT like being compared to other people or co-workers at all. I'm sorry I do things my way. The way that works best for me not anyone else. I must say it's worked for me for the past 5 years I've done it. Not to mention not a single one of us is alike. We all have our good/bad qualities about us when it comes to how we work. GET THE HELL OVER IT!  Three: DO NOT in any way think after you've treated me like crap for the past 8 hours that I'm going to stick around and help you because you need it. You're damn lucky one of us stayed an extra hour and helped after your comments. So yeah you're right I won't "take one for the team" if after everything I did manage to do gets put down. Can I remind you that we had things caught up just fine. So Whatever! Maybe I should've stayed and helped, but I was to much in a pissy mood to try and be nice to the workers who didn't piss me off and to the people (our lovely customers..no sarcasm there I promise) and I think I showed.
Then today one of the same people that called in yesterday and was suppose to come in this morning again with me wasn't there when I showed up at 9. Our other pharmacist (god bless her) worked for an hour by herself. The girl called in because she felt bad today had a headache...a headache.. I work with freakin' headaches all the time like yesterday! I'm thinking maybe just maybe I need to call in and be "sick". I must I give props to the afternoon girl that called in yesterday. She came and helped today. I know I'm being a little bitchy right now. I'm just tired of it. *shrugs*

So these have been my two days of pure and total "Happiness".
Any comments, ideas, suggestions, weapons I could use? :) *just kidding*
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm sitting here typing all this right, and I look over to my right side and see all my books sitting there waiting to be read. I really need to read. I'm about done with Paranormalcy I'll probably finish it tonight and put up my review, but I don't know what take-a-long-book to read next. I'm thinking maybe I should finish like two that I have 100 or so more pages to read. They're kind of just sitting patiently. I keep wanting to read them and I get interested in another book. So here's where I stand with books I've started but kind of stopped: Vanished by Tess Gerritsen (I've been on this book for quite some time now. It's a detective like book) I have like 100 pages or so left. Then there's wicked by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie. I have like 150 pages more of that one. (It's a witchy book) Then Hunger Games book 1. I have like 250 pages more. (I couldn't get into it), and Generation Dead I'm on page 10. :) Oh also the darkest evening of the year but I don't have that book with me it's at home on th ebookshelf..So I think before I start another book I need to finish these. Humm where to start. I'm thinking maybe tomorrow would be a good day to stay home and read. So as to not buy any more books (I'm going to try so hard. I don't have gas in my car so it might be easy). I know it's bad when my sister in law came over (with my brother and the kids of course) and said I need to stop buying books and read what I have. :) She said "maybe you should finish reading all the books you have, and until you do that don't buy anymore. Well except for Last Sacrifice in December" because we all know I'm getting that the day it comes out. Also I have to get my Night Star that came out today.

Now that I have totally bored you with my complete and total randomness beyond anything for today. I shall try and finish my book. Then wander around blogville here or maybe watch one of the two movies I rented Marmaduke or The last air bender.

Peace ya'll
Ashley

Top Ten Tuesday #2 (Villians and evilness)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This meme was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!
So this weeks list is the Evilies in books and what not.

I'm going to try and get 10,  but I might not make it.  Also,  some may be from the same Series. (You'll learn that I'm a VA Supporter all the way.)

In no particular order:

1. Queen of Hearts- Alice in Wonderland: She just gives me the creeps. Does that count?

2. Roman- The Immortal Series by Alyson Noel: He just pisses me off. I mean he seems like he would be okay at first but then he switches. He takes away the one thing that means everything to Ever. Then later he takes away something else. I mean seriously what's with hot guys being evil. :(

3. Victor Dashkov- VA series by Richelle Mead: Umm the whole trying to use Lissa and take over. I feel like I can't say too much about him without give away everything. Unless I already did. Whoops.

4. Strigoi- The dead mean Vampires in the Va Series: I don't think I need to say why l think their evil. They killed some good people, and/or turned them.

5. The Grinch- Who doesn't like Christmas?

6. Nefert- The high priestess in the HoN Series- She acts like she's a friend to Zoey in the first few books, but we know the truth.

7.  Kalona- Fallen angel from HoN Series: He tries to get Zoey to go bad I guess you could say.

8.The Silver Bloods- Bad Vampires in the Blue Blood Series by Melissa De La Cruz: Do I have to explain on this one? They're vampires and they're evil. Enough said.

9. The Joker- I think he was my favorite villian in the batman movies. I use to have sheets with him on them. :)

10. Voldemort- I have to agree with them on this one. Although I thought about the Volturi, but I'm going to stick with the evil wizard who tried to kill our Harry.

What do you know I actually made it to ten. Yea me !
So What villians do you think make the list?
