HPB kind of day

Well as you know, I have a bad, BAD addiction to Half Price Books. (It something I cant help) I went there Friday with my sister in law, brother an their kids. (My brother and the kids stayed in the car. Even though I told them I would take along time) Needless to say I spent probably around 60 dollars. Hey, in my defense though I bought Gilmore Girls season 6 which was 25 dollars. :) Anyways, I got some books (of course), and those are show cased in the In my mailbox post. Then I was going to go last night to the other one, but didn't feel like driving at night so I waited until today and made my mom drive. :) I just can't say no to buying tons of books when I go. (I guess it's a good thing I have coupons) I mean I find a book that's on my good reads list , and I'm like I have to get it because I might not be able to get it again for that price. I've had a few instances when I didn't buy a book and regretted it like Wonderous Strange by Lesley Livingston I saw it a few months back, and didn't get it like I should have, and haven't found it again. (I know I can go online and buy it but to me that's no fun) I learned my lesson from that now I usually just get the books. Today I spent close to 80 dollars, but I got 11 books that are on my GR list, and Dead like me Season 2. (If you haven't seen this show it's hilarious) I was definitely a happy camper, broke a little, but happy all the way.

Just for a little fun bit I took a few pictures of the Ya section at the store, and I found some of the American Girl books. (there will be a post sometime in the future about those) Then of course I couldn't resist taking pictures of my moms cat laying by my books. :)

I caught him asleep.

Then I woke him up. I love how he's sitting.

LOL I'm not sure Edward is liking the camera now

CLOSEUP!!!

One little section. I just snapped the pictures.

The American Girls books I found. (Too bad I already had to many books)

Another little corner

That is all for now.
I promise to get some reviews up soon. I know I'm kind of slacking. :( Sorry.

Half Price Books (rant)

As you can tell from the post name I did find my way back to HPB. I went to one yesterday, and then the other one today. I originally intended on going to get some stuff for my friend  for x-mas like some tv seasons and other movies, but I completely forgot what she said she wanted. *oops* Anyways since I was there I thought why not look at my YA section. I must say the one today had some awesome books. I got 5 of them today, some which finish off some of my series I was tryin to get, and another which is the start to a series I keep seeing everywhere, and figured it was time to get. The last one is on my Contempt Challenges list for next year. I'm excited about that. Now I have 3 books from the list to read. What's weird is this book just came out December 1st and I wasn't expecting to see it at a half price books store yet. It's all good though.

I love going in there everytime I do I always end up talking to people about some books this time some lady was looking for Torment I think. They had fallen in PB, but not torment. Then we talked a few minutes about those and the Hush, hush series.

I've talked about doing a giveaway when I got to 100 followers , and I definitely will. I'm going to wait for the holiday season to be over because I still have alot of stuff I need to get done, and stuff I need to get for my family. So with that being said if I can get to 200 before January I might be nice enough to add another winner. :) That will happen in January I PROMISE!

So upcoming and behind stuff I've done on here: Humm let me think.
Behind stuff: I've written a few reviews Last Sacrifice (which =Uh-mazing) TTYL (cute little book) In a heartbeat (sad but sweet)
Reading: The forest of hands and teeth, Cut, and I'll probably start on Nightstar.
Signing: Richelle Mead is having a signing in Allen,Texas on Tuesday. I'm so going so look for that coming up!

This has nothing to do with books or what not, but I was thinking about getting a tattoo with my sister in law next week when she gets one. I'm not exactly sure what I want though. I want something small because it'll be the first time to get one, Hum?

Wings Review

AUTHOR: Aprilynne Pike
PUBLISHER: HarperTeen
PAGES: 294
STAND ALONE/SERIES: Series (Wings book 1, Spells book 2, Illusions book 3)

OUTLINE:
Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful—too beautiful for words.
Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.
In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.

STARTED: 11-21-10
FINISHED: 11-23-10

MY THOUGHTS:
I've read some peoples reviews on this, and it has been mixed. Some like..some don't. After seeing that My Enchanted Rambling liked it and I commented, and she told me I should see for myself. I've had the book for awhile now, and I haven't read any Faery books that I can remember so I did, and I'm definitely glad. I can honestly say I want to read the second one to learn more about Laurel, and the 3rd when it comes out next year.

At first it seemed to start off kind of slow, but probably about half way through it started to get interesting. I was wanting to know what happened with the characters more and more. Here's the low-down...Laurel was adopted when she was 3. She was left on the doorstep of her parents house in a basket none the less. How funny is that? A 3 year old in a basket. Anyways, later on in the book you learn who left her there and why..kind of. By age 15 her parents move them to a new city where she's put into a public school. (She's been homeschooled all her young life) There she meets David. Yes, there's a boy in the story, or two. :) During the story Laurel notices something on her back, but what it is she doesn't know. At first she thinks it's just a zit, just a normal teenage thing. She meets Tamani, a very different kind of boy, who let's her in on what she is. What she finds out kind of throws her for a loop. :) There lies our love triangle now. We just love those love triangles. From there on other things start happening. I don't want to really go more into it. let's just say her dad starts getting sick, some creepy realtor guy shows up, and she continues to learn of her heritage. I love the river scene it's pretty intense. I mean you know pretty much somethings going to happen, but until it does your holding your breath like OMG! I know I'm kind of wacky with the reviews. I give a little and your stuck wondering more right? Just nod and agree.

The MC is Laurel, she's seems like a down to earth, sweet kind of girl who would do anyhting for her friends. In the begining of the story she doesn't have many friends because she's been home-schooled, but she soon makes friends, David and Chelsea, at her new school. She also meets a strange and exoctic boy in the woods by her old house. I really didn't have to many problems with her as a character. She's a 15 year old so annoying habits, and whiney-ness comes with the territory. I had a hard time figuring out who I would like to see her with either David or Tamani. Both are guys that seem to like her and want to be with her.

David is the best friend she meets when she moves to her new school, and is the one person who she can turn to with her most prized secret. I actually feel sorry for him because he's kind in that rut where your the best friend but you would rather be more. He shows he truly cares about her when they go snooping around places they shouldn't be, or gets in to trouble with his mom for staying out. Like I said I'm torn between both guys so I wouldn't know what to do for Laurel.

Tamani our exoctic boy from another realm. He is Laurel's protector we find out and has been since she was little. Like David it seems he would do just about anything for Miss Laurel too. There's also more to Laurel and his relationship then Laurel knows. We have ourselves the exoctic, mysterious boy.

Then we have the story's other character, Chelsea who's David friends but soon becomes Laurel's, she's a very blunt person. If she has something on her mind she says it. Then you have Laurel's parents, her mom who doesn't believe in doctors or medicine (just herbel, natural stuff), and her dad who owns a bookstore (how cool is that, I wanna bookstore), Then David's mom who's the opposite of Laurel's parents, she's a pharmacist at a drugstore. ( I love this because I work in a pharmacy) Then there's Barnes (the supposed realtor), and his sidekicks Scarface and Red (That should tell you something).

MEMORABLE QUOTES:
-Typical mom advice sweet, honest, and completely useless. (laurel)
-What? (laurel)
It's just well, it kinda makes sense. (David)
Some crazy guy claims I'm a mythical creature, and that makes sense to you. (Laurel)
-How do I give you tissue samples? (Laurel)
We could get epithelial cells from your cheek like they do on CSI. (David)
CSI? you're going to investigate me now? (Laurel)
-Laurel, David? Would you like to share the joke with the rest of the class? (Teacher)
No,Sir...but thank you for asking. (David)
David, one. Teacher who wishes he was as smart as david? Zero. (Laurel thinking it)
-You know after I got done thinking you were a crazy homeless guy. (Laurel to Tamani)
-We like things that sparkle you, know. (Tamani)
Laurel thought of the glass prisms she had strung across her bedroom window years ago. I thought that was just a personal preference. (Laurel)
-Eye of Hecate, do neither of you know how to follow directions? (Tamani)
Apparently not. (Laurel)
-I'm getting pretty tired of the way you drive me like a slave in that bookstore. I have rights you know. He added with a laugh. (David)

EXTRAS:
This is another one of the bookcover actually like this one. It's more sparkley (at least it looks that way). I believe this is the paperback one so if I go the way I'm going if I see it in paperback I'm liable to get it. It kind of goes better with the books theme too. Although the cover I have above has it's importance to the book as well. :)

Have you read the book if so what'd you think?

Books, books, and more

OMG! Okay so I ordered like 12 books from two book clubs like a month or 2 ago, and never got them. Well guess what I finally received them today. I'm thinking my apartment people had them in the office and just nver told me they were sitting in there. I had no idea and the only reason I found out was because i had an amazon package from UPS that they had to, and the UPS guy left a note at my apt. Anyways enough ranting I'm just thrilled to have actually gotten them. So I got 14 books all together today. I'll post which ones on Sundays In my mailbox. That is going to be one big freakin' mailbox post I'll tell you  because I also bought some at HPB. Just thought I'd share that little bit of info with all you booklovers.

FYI: If I don't responded or post like I have been it's because my damn internet is acting up so just letting you know I didn't go anywhere.

Random Bookish Pictures

I didn't actually know where to put some of the pictures of books, and other bookish things. Just FYI I'm a random picture taker. Which means if I randomly taken pictures of book things they shall go here.

This is one of my many bookshelves that now has books instead of pictures. Most of these books are just recently purchased ones of mine. The stephen king one I've been working on read for quite some time. It's a biggin'.

Hum. I told you I'm odd. These are actually very interesting to thumb through.

I loved these poems books when I was in...well younger. They have some of the nuttiest poems, and when I saw them in a catalog I had to get them. If you've never heard of them look them up. Here's a little snippet from one called "Sick" in where the sidewalk ends.
My tongue is filling up my mouth,
I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow's bent, my spine ain't straight,
My temperature is one-o-eight.
Like I said awesome!

Hey if you read books you gotta have the bookmarks right? LOL I think I buy a new one everytime I go to HPB. These are a much needed item for someone who reads more than one book at a time. IE me.

*is in heaven* I'm telling you I love this store more than anything. I could easily spend 100 bucks here, and at least 2 or so hours. It's that bad. Mall? Pffft! Give me a book store anyday. Is that weird? This is just one of the HPB near me. *grins*
Are you like me do you like randomly taking pictures of things? Or is that seem odd. Hum. well whatever you said let me know and drop a comment. I'll respond always.
