As I look through my little window to see what's going on in the world of blogs I follow. I notice questions being asked by fellow bloggers (about anything books, blogs, just whatever), and I always like to try and comment on those post. Only problem is they're then just written as comments, and forgotten after a while. Where am I going with this, you ask? I decided that even though I answer on their blogs I'll add post here too. Others may be thinking the same things, or have similar questions. Perhaps you're just curious to know something about me personally or want my take on things. Ask and I shall respond. (Because let's face it..I have nothing better to do) (Note- I'm not an expert, and I've only been blogging since October so my answers maybe limited. I will try to help though)
I thought they were some good questions that might help others also.
These are the questions
?
What are your opinions on putting ads on blogs?
I think as long as the ad isn't overdoing it then it's fine, and completely up to you. Like some others said I'm not sure how well they work, but you never know unless you try. :) I'm definitely not one for the pop-up kind of ads though. Those irritate the hell out of me. I get mad when I have a window I get rid of, and then it pops back up. Grrr stupid stupid. Sorry! Off the topic. Yeah I think it wouldn't hurt. That is just me though.
(I actually signed up for something earlier, but they have to approve it, and everything so I'll see where that leads. I forget the name of the site. Hum.)
How many books do you review per week?
I try not to put a number on how many I do, or should do because then it makes it seem like less fun. Let's face it I love writing reviews, and being able to put my two sense in, even if it doesn't make a bit of sense. That is just my way, and I want it to be fun in every way possible. (I don't know though should I have a set number?) I write the reviews to be fun and help people (now whether either of those hold true I don't know). I don't write them religiously, I tend to be sporatic. One review..one week, three reviews...the next. All depends on my reading, and my mood of course. Usually, once I finish a book I try and review it within a few days. (Sometimes it takes longer because I can't think of how I want to put it.) So I'd say on average 1-3 reviews. Such a simple answer.
How long are your reviews?
Hum I try to make them evenly in length sometimes that doesn't happen though. For example: if it's a series of books (like the Hush, Hush and Crescendo books I just finished them. So to understand what I'm saying visit each review) usually the first book gets the longest review of the series because I go into why I liked the characters, and what not. Then the sequels I'll try and add in if there's any new characters, and what else I liked about that particular book and its plot. Some books are so easy to review and explain why you do or don't like them others (for me anyways) are hard to put into words so those usually get a short review.
Do you mind reading short reviews?
I love reading all sorts of reviews. Sometimes short reviews can be the best reviews. Short and sweet and to the point. Other times I like to read and have an in depth look at the books. (Some opposites on reviewing are Small Reviews which I love to pieces because they are so detailed and in depth. Then Naj at Unputdownable Books are usually short and sweet, but very helpful. You guys are awesome!) Any review though is a helpful review in my eyes. More of a plus if it looks like you had fun writing it then I'll love it.
Should I write shorter reviews for more books, or longer review for less books?
I say, write what ever your little heart desires. I wouldn't stress to much. You want to enjoy it.
remember you do this for yourself and for your love of the books and the reading. The reviews are just a way for you to show how you feel. Length shouldn't matter.
What non-review posts do you enjoy reading? (tutorials, lists, debates...etc)
I love reading all sorts of posts like the IMMs, the follow friday/blog hop questions, random rants(I'm very good at writing those), or any of the memes (Top 10 list, Teaser Tuesday, WoW, I know there's more at the moment my brain is tired and drifting). I think it just depends on my mood that day. I think being able to add non-review posts gives your viewers a way to learn about you as a blogger and a person.
I've also found the some tutorials are very helpful as well. I had no clue how to add the little comment above the comments until I read it from Small Reviews site. On Parajunkees site she has the blogging 101, or Kristi at the story siren has the dear story siren posts. All which are awesomeness.
And those are my answers!
Well now that I answered them all. I hope it was somewhat useful for you. Remember just have fun. That's what it's all about!
Oh gosh thank you! I'm always wondering if I'm alienating people who take one look at my monster reviews and think, "I'm not reading all that!" I just don't do pity all that well. I'm so happy to hear you enjoy my reviews. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea for a post. I have so many questions (of course I can't think of them now!), so I'll really be looking forward to reading these posts. Thank you for taking the time to write them!
Ok, I meant to write I don't do pithy all that well. Not pity. :P
ReplyDeleteLol. It's all good.
ReplyDeleteI really do enjoy them. I feel like a broken record.
Yeah that always happens your head is full of things to ask, and then when it comes time. Total blank.
Aw thank you so much for saying you like the idea. I guess it'll just pop up when I get questions, or find other post that have question that I would like to answer and I think would be useful. It's a sporatic post. :) I love writing stuff like this being able to help if possible. it gives me something to do when I'm up at 2am bored and cant sleep.
