Happy Birthday to me!

Yes, today is my birthday, and now I have 1 year left
to be in my twenties...-sniffs-
Birthdays just aren't as fun as when you were a kid. You got to have parties, presents, sleepovers (ok so  maybe that was just me. I always had a slumber party.) It now just seems like another year older and more in debt. :) I really don't know what I'll be doing today probably just spending time with the husband. Going to eat with him and my family, and then going to see Fast and the furious 7. #tholderyears

Hope everyone else has a Happy April 4th day!

Karma's A biatch!

-Personal Story-
My July has totally been craptastic, but yesterday pretty much was shit-tastic. I woke up to my fiance tossing things around at 630 in the morning trying to find his wallet. I tried to ignore it and go back to sleep, but he finally was like "Will you see if you can help me find my wallet?" so I get up and we look numerous times everywhere. It's nowhere to be found, and he was pissed because naturally he had his liscense, bank card, gas card, emergency credit card, kays card, pep boys card, among other things in there. So by 830 when everything was opening up we went to his job first to see if it was there, and then we decided to go to the bank and cancel that card juat in case. Well whatwe  learned when we got there was that some jackass had found the wallet and spent in one day 430.00 dollars at best buy online (with our bank card), 200.00 on the gas card (technically the cards in his mom names), 130.00 on the emergency card (that's all they could before talking to Ryan), 97.00 at 7eleven on the bank card, 65.00 at walmart, and a few other charges. What sucks even moreis  we didn't have money on the card until both our checks direct deposited that same morning. So they had all our money spent before it was even there. That caused us overdraft charges. We spent a good 8 hours calling, canceling, and talking to places to get it straightend out. We finally went to the poilce department to file a report and they said they couldnt do much until tuesday when the detective that handles that kind of thing comes in. REALLY? Then Ryan calls best buy and finds out the person was trying to buy a laptop, and we got the name that they were having it sent too. Side note if you still someones shit don't use your real name because eventually you will be caught.

We now have to have everything transfered to a new account, and probably wait 10 days to 45 days to get back anything. It's a damn good thing we have family and some friends who care otherwise we'd really be in a shit creek. Looks like I'm really on a book buying ban for awhile. It just amazes me how uncaring some people are.We worked really really hard for our money to have some bitch/bastard take it all in one day. I just keep telling myself that karmas a bitch and what comes around goes around. To the person who did this you may have gotten a few things out of it, but if everything works you'll be the one getting screwed. Do people not realize there are cameras pretty much anywhere you go. Especially if you steal it at 2am to 3am in the morning at a gas station. Employee?

Then to top that off I get a text from a co-worker telling me not to worry about working today (I was suppose to at 11am) because I hadn't done a module that was due yesterday when all this shit was happening. I was PISSED to say the least. It was my manager who told her to tell me. Really? Be a man and have some balls and call me to let me know. Don't get someone else to do your job. So I went ahead and did it last night, and was I called today and told I could work... once they saw I did it..nope! That's just being heartless in my opinion after I told them my bank account was drained. It's cool though I'll get a vacation day for it, and all be damned if they tell me no.
Then today we stilled had stuff we had to finish taking care of. People if you find someones wallet think about this: How would you feel if someone found your card, money, or whatever and decided to use it knowing that it's wrong and could cause problems for that person?

Updates: Life, wedding, books

Hey all my lovely BA readers. Sorry I haven't been around lately with any bookish things or reviews. I feel pretty horrible about it, seeing as how this is a book review site. I am reading just not like I want. I have two on my kindle and two hardbacks I'm trying to get through. It's not because I'm not enjoying them. I really am. An assasin for death, kids with special abiities, kids stuck on an island with a murderer, and vampires that don't sparkle :) I've just been busy with work and after that I just don't feel like doing anything, but sleeping.

Wedding is also kind of taking precident over other things. Although, his mom is doing alot of it for me which is totally fine with me because I wouldn't have a clue what to do. The closer November gets the more excited and nervous I get. This is something I never thought would happen. I'm pretty freakin lucky to have found the one person I want to spend my life with. I've seen friends and family go through so much heartbreak that at times I wasn't sure I wanted anything to do with that, but Ryan has definitely changed my views. :) We went back in April to get our wedding bands. I must admit they are awesome. I tried to say just keep it til the wedding, but I couldn't after I saw it.

Oh, and guess what I got this past week.....a new car. Well it's new to me it's a 2011 Kia Soul (yes it's the hamster car) Maybe you're wondering why I'm excited about this well I haven't had my own car since about a year ago.

Today is my birthday!!!

So today is my birthday. The big 27, okay so it's not so big, but it's 3 years away from 30 ya'll. :( You know how you always want your birthday to be a special day, or at least have fun. No such luck today. I know if ryan would have been off we would have actually gone out and done things to day and then tonight as well, but of course CVS ruined that. I guess we'll just have to make tomorrow work. I did go eat at Olive garden with Ryan and my mom, and then I came home and have been by myself since. Karaoke can only be so much fun by yourself for so long. :)

I did sign up for RAK this month if you wanna go check it out at Book Soulmates

I know I have been so MIA on here lately, but in all honesty I've been busy with wedding stuff. Yes, I finally started doing things (okay so his mom actually has, but I really love that she's helping.) I actually have gotten my wedding dress and accessories (veil, hair clips), the place it's going to be at, the date, and his mom bought me some of the accessories for the wedding for my birthday like the guestbook, pen, flower girl basket, candle, ring bearer pillow, and she's the one who bought my dress and the things with it. Apparently, my family doesn't know how to help.I'll see if I can get pictures of the place up later on. I would put pictures of dress up, but I do that and some how Ryan would find the site. It really is a beautiful dress though. When I put it on and came out of the dressing room his mom and the lady helping us said my face just glowed, and I tried a few others on, but none came close. It really was an awesome feeling to know that I'll be wearing that on November 16th this year. If you're dying to see it email me at ashleyjowens@gmail.com and I can always send a picture of it to you. (That if I know you well enough)

As for the reading aspect of my life right now I have been reading just not so much reviewing for which I always feel guilty. I have reviews started that I actually need to get myself to finish. Right now I'm reading The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken and then Grave Mercy on my kindle. Both of which are good so far. Like I said I'm just in a slump, or busy working, or out doing things with friends and family when I have free time.

I do love all of you and will continue to love you because if not for you all I would be pretty much talking to myself. I will find a time do a giveaway to thank everyone too.

The usual randomness that is me (books, friends, authors, work)

(Always fun when you're celebrating with Ashley or just me!)

Adorable!!

Hello my darlings!

This might be a rather long post because I'm hyped up (on what I couldn't tell you maybe it's the stereoid shot from my doctor. It's totally legal I promise. I'm guessing prednisone of a sort.) I wonder if those can do that? (I should know this, but that is why I'm just a tech.), and I have stuff to say. Just a warning to you. Not all is book related. Some is friend related, some is work related, and some blog-related. Alright good now that you know...you may preceed.

Is it worth it to read on. I think it is! Then again I'm biased. :)

WORK AND DOCTORS (you can skip this if you want. I promise it's not life altering)

Hehe, or in my case doctors horrible prescription writing.

I'm in a good mood tonight despite the fact that I had to go to the doctor, and got a shot in the butt. That was not fun. Shots always tend to leave me bruised, and hurting for the next few days. (On the upside I got to read some of my book while sitting in the room waiting for the doctor)Oh, and also despite having to go back to work when I clearly felt craptastic. Why did I have to go back? Let's just say someone else (who calls in lot) called in. I honestly don't understand it. I know this junk is going around. (Bronchitis, flu, pneumonia-sp) Trust me I know I live with two people who have both of those, and my darling family members that have it. It just irritates me (I guess because I'm to damn stubborn to call in, and say hey I'm feeling bad I'm not coming today.) that it's constant. Then last week, our pharmacist tells a co-worker. "You sound bad just don't come in tomorrow, and we will find somebody." Like we have extras to work! WTH? I know I'm tripping right? Why can't I ever get special treatment like that sheesh. I guess it's the 15 years vs my 5 years.

CHATS ARE MADE OF THAT STUFF CALLED AWESOME. (I love that word)
Okay, I'm off topic. I really had a good day and night. I don't think I've ever talked. I say talked I mean texted about so much book (and some non-related book) stuff ever, EVER! I quite enjoyed it. It's fun to learn new things about books you didn't know. Thanks for sharing with me. I tell ya it's amazing what you learn. :) To YOU..you know who you are. Awesome with the ness. A much needed talk. Sometimes talks can put things in perspective for you when you're not even looking for it to. Hope you feel better too. I need to find some friends around me (my little spot here in TX) who read, and enjoy what I do. It would be fun to get together at signings, or any book event. I notice most are in Austin though. Four hours or around that is a long drive by yourself. (Don't have to worry about that now that I'm freaking carless, it sucks, I'm just saying.) Oh and I loved twittering a bit tonight with Lisa D. (I'm still excited about O.S. third..Excited is a charm.)

Then chatting a bit with a new author (Well new to me anyway) who for some reason decided to follow me on twitter. (Glad you did. The books sound awesome. I can't wait now.  April is a few months away, and totally my birthday 4-4. People..Remember that date! ;) j/k ) Las Vegas Dazzle by Pam Langsam. The first two chapters are on her FB page here. Then her book website is here. Her website is here. Another Native Dallas Texan.

I'm telling you Dario sounds freaking cute not to mention he has that mysterious, bad boy feel to him, but then again he's part of a mob. I love the dangerous boys! Then Taylor who has mysterious dreams about a boy she doesn't know. Sound interesting. Go take a look.

BLOG/BANNER CHANGE..THOUGHT PROCESS: (it's all the same in the end)
I've been thinking I want to change my look. (the banner and everything) Only problem is I can't find, or make a banner that I think would fit with my theme. I have this image (well partial image) in my head of what kind of banner and button I want, but I'm so graphically stupid (I don't even know if that is right) when it comes to putting things together or making one that I haven't. :( I see all these awesome looking banners with the people reading books or book related, and I envy them. (Seriously I do!) kay, so here goes my description of the image in my brain. I want a banner with a few people sitting around a table (or circle for the matter) with books maybe kinda to the side of this room that they would be in with maybe some thought bubbles as to what the people are thinking and a door over to the side that reads Bookaholics Anonymous. I told you I've thought this through all except for what they might be thinking. I'm sure I could figure something out. What would you put as a thought bubble? I know one of mine is Books come first, and our lives come second. Or maybe that'll be the groups slogan.

Some random icons. Just because I can.
I feel like this sometimes after I come out of Half Price Books with bags. :)

:)

Oh this looks kinda like my closet here at my moms house is going to start looking soon.

Looks like me after HPB.

That is very,very true.
I hope you enjoyed this very long, graphicized post. I'm officially going to sleep as it's 4am, and I have to be at work at 8am.

Much love...
Happy Reading and Blogging
PEACE!

(Oh you can leave me message. I always comment back sometimes long comments.)

Questions Answered (1)

As I look through my little window to see what's going on in the world of blogs I follow. I notice questions being asked by fellow bloggers (about anything books, blogs, just whatever), and I always like to try and comment on those post. Only problem is they're then just written as comments, and forgotten after a while. Where am I going with this, you ask? I decided that even though I answer on their blogs I'll add post here too. Others may be thinking the same things, or have similar questions. Perhaps you're just curious to know something about me personally or want my take on things. Ask and I shall respond. (Because let's face it..I have nothing better to do) (Note- I'm not an expert, and I've only been blogging since October so my answers maybe limited. I will try to help though)

Here are my thoughts on some questions asked by Tina at Book Couture :) In one of her recent posts found here. Here was my response as a comment (I added more to them). I couldn't fit everything in the comment. :) So head on over to her original post and tell her what you think as well. :)

I thought they were some good questions that might help others also.

These are the questions
?
What are your opinions on putting ads on blogs?
I think as long as the ad isn't overdoing it then it's fine, and completely up to you. Like some others said I'm not sure how well they work, but you never know unless you try. :) I'm definitely not one for the pop-up kind of ads though. Those irritate the hell out of me. I get mad when I have a window I get rid of, and then it pops back up. Grrr stupid stupid. Sorry! Off the topic. Yeah I think it wouldn't hurt. That is just me though.
(I actually signed up for something earlier, but they have to approve it, and everything so I'll see where that leads. I forget the name of the site. Hum.)

How many books do you review per week?
I try not to put a number on how many I do, or should do because then it makes it seem like less fun. Let's face it I love writing reviews, and being able to put my two sense in, even if it doesn't make a bit of sense. That is just my way, and I want it to be fun in every way possible. (I don't know though should I have a set number?) I write the reviews to be fun and help people (now whether either of those hold true I don't know).  I don't write them religiously, I tend to be sporatic. One review..one week, three reviews...the next. All depends on my reading, and my mood of course. Usually, once I finish a book I try and review it within a few days. (Sometimes it takes longer because I can't think of how I want to put it.) So I'd say on average 1-3 reviews. Such a simple answer.

How long are your reviews?
Hum I try to make them evenly in length sometimes that doesn't happen though. For example: if it's a series of books (like the Hush, Hush and Crescendo books I just finished them. So to understand what I'm saying visit each review) usually the first book gets the longest review of the series because I go into why I liked the characters, and what not. Then the sequels I'll try and add in if there's any new characters, and what else I liked about that particular book and its plot. Some books are so easy to review and explain why you do or don't like them others (for me anyways) are hard to put into words so those usually get a short review.

Do you mind reading short reviews?
I love reading all sorts of reviews. Sometimes short reviews can be the best reviews. Short and sweet and to the point. Other times I like to read and have an in depth look at the books. (Some opposites on reviewing are Small Reviews which I love to pieces because they are so detailed and in depth. Then Naj at Unputdownable Books are usually short and sweet, but very helpful. You guys are awesome!) Any review though is a helpful review in my eyes. More of a plus if it looks like you had fun writing it then I'll love it.

Should I write shorter reviews for more books, or longer review for less books?
I say, write what ever your little heart desires.  I wouldn't stress to much. You want to enjoy it.
remember you do this for yourself and for your love of the books and the reading. The reviews are just a way for you to show how you feel. Length shouldn't matter.

What non-review posts do you enjoy reading? (tutorials, lists, debates...etc)
I love reading all sorts of posts like the IMMs, the follow friday/blog hop questions, random rants(I'm very good at writing those), or any of the memes (Top 10 list, Teaser Tuesday, WoW, I know there's more at the moment my brain is tired and drifting). I think it just depends on my mood that day. I think being able to add non-review posts gives your viewers a way to learn about you as a blogger and a person.
I've also found the some tutorials are very helpful as well. I had no clue how to add the little comment above the comments until I read it from Small Reviews site. On Parajunkees site she has the blogging 101, or Kristi at the story siren has the dear story siren posts. All which are awesomeness.
And those are my answers!

Well now that I answered them all. I hope it was somewhat useful for you.  Remember just have fun. That's what it's all about!

A few poems (my writing)

My review brain is on hiatus right now do to stress, and what not (see earlier post to know) At least, I think that's what I'm going to call it. I just can't get into review mode. *sigh* Sorry! SO (I love my so word) with that being said here are a few poems I wrote back in '00 according to the dates. That kind of some me up right now. Oh, FYI I tend to rhyme my stuff, and it's kind of corny. *shrugs*

I go through life.
I go through life
thinking you're not there
I go through life
thinking you don't care
I go through life
thinking it's not fair
this pain I can no longer bear
Yeah my life is great it's true
then why do I always feel blue
I'm now scared of what I see
this can't possibly be the real me
As I've said, everyday's the same
there will never be anyone to blame
Days go by as iff they were years
every minute I try an keep back each tear. 6-17-2000

Death wish
Which way should I go?
I just don't know
Everyday I cry inside
I can no longer deny
Everyday I just cry
No longer do I want to live a lie
Death seems like an easy way out
There is no doubt
Yes, it's forever why would I care
This pain inside I can't seem to bear
I've tried so hard to be strong
bu no longer do I can I go on
My life is worthless, it's plain to see
I'm a failure, a mistake, a screwup, that's me 7-1-00

She's So Unusual
She's so unusual
she no longer
the same
everythings different
she has herself
to blame
she's just
not herself
in her
own world
she lives
sad and alone
she has
nothing to give
her days
have darkened
her nights
have grown cold
there's no one around
there's no one to hold
she keeps
to herself
it's better
that way
no one to bother her
that's all she'll say -2005

Untitled
We never use to fight
everything between us
was always alright
I miss the times
we use to share
the way you were
always there...
What happened
to those times
I wish I could
just press rewind
I don't want
to lose you as a friend
I don't want
this friendship to end -3-31-07

Tragic I know, Trainwreck definitely! I actually have a spiral full of stuff like this, and one day maybe I'll put them up on my other blog.
