History of Bookaholics Anonymous

2010-2011
Everyone ready for a little History Lesson. :)
Awesome!

THE 5 W'S AND A H.
Who created this site?
I did! Duh! Oh, alright I'll be nice. My name is Ashley. I created Bookaholics Anonymous Online. I have a complete profile page. Where I talk about just me. I know conceited right? Want to know more about me. Go here -->Bookaholics Anonymous: The Creator.

What made me decide to create a book blog?

I wanted a place to be able to share my love of reading with people, who strangely enough have that same passion. I noticed when I started reading that after I was finished with a book that was pretty much it. End of story. No more. Then what? I move on to the next, and forget what I read before that. I think not. I don't really have anyone close to me who reads. (Okay, I lie my sister in law reads some of the same stuff I do when I recommend it to her.) Other then that I was stuck with my own thoughts (which may or may not be a good thing) on these books. I needed a place to let my thoughts go, and in the process help others who are curious about books. Thus, my book blog and it's birth.

When did I take the plunge?

Let's see here technically I started a book blog October 1st of 2010 and it was called Read and Write This Way. It's actually still on my profile list I think. Although it's probably quite messy because I've used it for figuring things out. :) then October 19, 2010 I came up with Bookaholics Anonymous, and transferred what little I had on my old site over here...and well the rest is B.A history.

Where did the inspiration come from?

The inspiration for a book blog came about when I was looking around on the net for book related things I guess. It wasn't even a year ago, and I barely remember. Sad isn't it. I remember I was sitting in my moms room late at night because at the time my apartment didn't have electricity. I think I came across Kristi's Site The Story Siren, and thought that would be awesome to have a blog like that. Then I dug a little deeper and came across Goodreads, and I was hooked. Before my book blog I had a personal blog (which is still accessible) Even before that I had a livejournal. (which I still have). If we want to keep going I've had tons of websites dating back to '98 or '99 when I was in middle school, and my life started falling in a downward spiral. Family issues.

Why did I choose Bookaholics Anonymous as the name?

Well like I said in one of my above post I had another blog for about 20 days and it was okay. However it just wasn't catchy enough for my taste. One day I remember talking to my Sis-in-law, and she mentioned how I should join a group for bookaholics. Then it hit me AA. There should be a group of people sitting around talking about their book addictions. I was in love <3.

How did it become this thing I call a book blog?

It took some time for sure. So for those of you who think things happen over night. Well they don't. When you see those blogs that have a buttload of followers don't be discouraged. It took them time to make it there. The amount of effort and patience may seem like way to much at times, but in the end it will be worth it. I promise. There were times when I wanted to stop and give up. Why bother right? My advice take a step back from it for awhile, re-evaluate, ask yourself this question: why'd you start to begin with. If you can answer with a reason you're comfortable with then keep going.

But I still have SO MANY questions!!

I'm assuming if you are still reading then my above answers were not good enough for you huh? I understand sometimes short answer don't give you the insight you want so for your benefit I will elaborate. :) In more short answer form. :P

1.)Are you bookaholic?
I certainly am a BookAHolic! Proud of it!

2.)Are you addicted to books?
I think I might be. Hey it could be worse right?

3.)Would you have ever thought you would be?
Nope, definitely not you can ask my family or friends too. They'll say I never read when I was in school. Except of course when you have to do those darn book reports then I did...sometimes.

4.) When did this addiction begin?
My fascination with books and reading probably began whenever the first Twilight movie came out. I know sad huh? I saw the movie and had to read the books and then after those books I was hooked on the whole YA genere. I did however read few books before that like the Harry Potter books, The deep end of the ocean, daddys little girl, the funhouse, the godsend, and a few Mary Higgins Clark ones. I mainly got my books at Goodwill at the time. I would read the back covers, or front which ever and if it sounded interesting (mystery/thriller like) I would buy it. The books were cheap what can I say. Like I said after the twilight series I went to walmart (there's walmart again) and looked through the book selection they had and read the backs of the books and went with the Vampire Academy Series. I'm so glad I did after the first book I was hooked on them. At the time there was 3 out I believe so I had to wait for the others. It was hard I wanted to know what happened right after I finished each book so not having the next book killed me, but I dealt. After reading that series I think I just kind of hopped around from series. If you have a good back page opening (don't know what they call them) or the cover looks interesting I'm all yours. If it's paranormal in anyway that's it I have to have.

5.)How many books do you buy and how many times do you go to the bookstore?
Well before my pay period changed I would usually go once a week, and depending on what I would find I would say anywhere from 2 to 10 being the most books I've bought. Now that I get paid differently I can only go when I get a paycheck. Usually it's still the same amount though.

6.) Is there an actual Bookaholics Anonymous Group?
You know I wonder the same thing. If so I think I might need to join. I guess it's better then the other addiction that I could have huh? Oh, to answer your question the only BA I know of is my site. But you can join it. :)

I love to answer my own questions. :) If you have any questions you can ask me below and I will respond at some point.

  1. I love this page. Especially the segment where you stated why you started a book blog because I think so many of us would have been in the same situation. I would read so many books and have so many things to say about them but nobody I knew had the same passion. Luckily I came across the blogosphere because otherwise I think I would have gone mental!

  2. I know the feeling all to well. I don't know what I would have done without the community here. I've made some awesome friends. It's just to bad they don't live closer.

  3. The world is getting much smaller Ash. Who knows, maybe one day one of us will be a seriously published author and we'll invite all our blogger friends to a book reading! In other news, I queried Jim McCarthy today. He is my number 1 dream agent. Well anyone from Dystel & Goderich would be fantastic. Imagine if I got to meet Richelle Mead....awesome.

  4. Yeah, one day maybe. :)

That's awesome. I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I was able to go to one of her signings back in December when she was touring for L.S. it was pretty cool. I didn't get an actual picture with her, but I got a few while standing by the table she was at. I made my Sis in law drive me an hour to go to it. I got my books signed so I was thrilled.

  5. In fact, all internet servers and services have some form of logging, and it's not just your IP address that is being retrieved from your Internet session. The exact time that you accessed a web site, as well as usage history (i.e. links on the website that you cliAnonymouscked, actions that you performed, data that you entered) are recorded.
