We got to ask the author a question so here was mine because I love names. If it's unusual I like it even more. Enjoy!
1.) When naming your characters, do you give any thought to the actual meaning?
When I started filling out my character list the first thing I did was go to www.babynames.com and went through each page of names. I wrote down the ones I loved. A couple names I used were solely based on their meaning. Take Timber for example. I chose that name for a minor character in my book because the meaning of that name matched his features. I love unique names or names I’ve heard. Naming characters is really not an easy process, for me at least. I used so many different names until they finally clicked. I’d talk out loud pretending I was having a conversation with said character and kept repeating everything until the names just rolled off my tongue with ease. That’s when I knew I found the perfect name. four of the names I had already had a home in the story with their specific character. Scarlett, Callie, Lola, & Oli were those names and I believe they were a perfect match for their characters.
Lol. How useful is babynames.com?? I don't think I've met a writer who hasn't flipped through it once! I used to go through the special sounding names and see if they matched my characters but now I find it too time consuming and way OCD. Great question and answer!
ReplyDeleteNot a problem Cesya. :)
ReplyDeleteLan: That's what I sorta do I think of how I want my character and then I go type in "Dark names" or "vampire names". I love for my characters to have unique names if possible. Perhaps just random words. I have a document going on word that says character names.
