I wouldn't say I hated or disliked it so much, but the thing with Simon. (It totally makes up for it though)

I'm not the biggest mortal instruments fan. I tried to read the first book but had to give up halfway :( I think Clary really annoyed me. I'm glad that you really enjoyed it. Think i'll try again but if it still annoys me, I might wait for the movie!
ReplyDeleteThat's how I was at first I think I read the first chapter or so online, and thought ok. I actually went ahead and bought them at our used bookstore and my sister in law read them first, and loved them. She was trying to tell me stuff that happened and I'd be all confused. She's like you have to read these so I did, and I really enjoyed them. (I haven't actually read the fourth one yet.) So I guess it's not VA standard. :) I have a tendencey to measure things up to that. They will definitely make for interesting movies though as will the hunger game books.
ReplyDeleteI doubt that many books will measure up to VA standards unfortunately. Although the love triangle in The Hunger Games got me thinking a lot more than the Dimitri/Adrian one. Probably because I liked Dimitri and couldn't care less about Adrian. I borrow the first Mortal Instruments from the library so I guess that was part of why I didn't bother picking it up again. Maybe if I buy it and it's just sitting there I will force myself to read it.

ReplyDeleteSee I liked Adrian, but I think I just liked his snarky attitude (if that's what you would call it). I wouldn't force yourself to read it. Like you said just wait for the movies to see. It took me 3 or 4 months after I bought it to read. There are very few that I buy them and read them right away. Usually they end up sitting a few months before I pick them up again. Like the House of night books I read those probably a year or so ago and I bought the latest one right when it came out, and have yet to read it.
I get off track sometimes when talking sorry.
I don't know if I could have a soft spot for any of the moroi except for Christian and Mia and Tasha to some extent. They are least were useful in a fight. Adrian and Lissa just didn't DO anything. And before people start saying that Lissa brought back Dimitri, yes I know, but she did it because Rose figured it all out and with very little risk to herself. I can't talk about House of Night because I have a no tearing down another writers story rule. Enough said.

lol. i love discussing books with people who love book because everyone has a different opinion and even though you're convinced you know best, someone always says something that stumps you or makes you think otherwise!
ReplyDeleteI think I was to into Rose and Dimitri's Drama then any of the others. So I didn't focus on those characters quite as much.
ReplyDeleteI agree I love discussing books with people. Especially if it puts what your thinking about that particular book or whatnot into question.
