Book to Movie: The Fault in Our Stars Edition

I'm sure as of now everyone has seen the awesomeness that is The Fault in our Stars movie trailer. If you haven't then why the hell not?

So now that you have seen it what do you think about it?
I think it looks awesome in a sad kind of way. I know everyone has said that if they've read the book they've cried. If they've watched this trailer they had tears. I'm going to say that I'm really not some soul-less person but I didn't cry. Then again it takes A LOT to make me cry at movies or while reading books. (People cried during titanic. I just wanted the movie to be over.) Maybe, once I see the whole movie I'll talk a different talk.

MY THOUGHTS

First off, I have to say I need to read Kim Harrington's debut book Clarity and the sequel Perception. I'm all about the ghost and the powers one can have. So with that being said it's no wonder that I enjoyed The Dead and Buried. Throw in a vengeful ghost and a little mystery as to who killed her and why and BOOM you have a story. I'm sure it's been done before, but it's the way the author writes it.

"I think people, by nature, want to believe that there's good in everyone. That if you peel back the layers of the onion you'll find and explanation, an excuse, a justification. The bully is bullied by his own father. The bad girl is ignored by her parents and just wants attention, even if it's negative." -pg 190

The characters have to be enjoyable, the plot has to make since and come together nicely. You know all that stuff. :) I believe that Kim Harrington did a nice job of that. Even though in the back of my mind and about 60-70 pages in I had this feeling who the killer already was, but there were times I was skeptical. Needless to say I was right about the killer. It didn't change the feelings I had for the book.

He would just kill us all… What if my being there, like, changed the space-time continuum and screwed up the whole balance of power and He Who Shall Not Be Named ended up killing Harry instead of the other way around and…

So, then, that leaves Middle Earth. If I stayed the heck away from Frodo and Mount Doom, how much could I really screw things up, right? And there Legolas. Legolasssssssss……… What? Oh…sorry. *blushes* Yep, Middle Earth it is. Here I come, Leggy!

Blogger Resolutions 2014

I know I'm kind of late getting this post up, but oh hell I don't have a reason really.

I'm hoping I can stick with these all year. So far I think I'm doing pretty good.

Except for maybe the 5th one because well I'm late on getting this one up.

Read the books I've started in the past, but put down for reasons un-known.
This is a big one for me because I hate, hate to DNF books. I say I don't DNF books I just put them aside for a long break. This year I want to actually get back to them. Some of those books are The Scorpio Races, The Forest of Hands and Teeth, Delirium, the duff, and I'm sure there are a few others.
Comment, Comment, Comment
I know that this one is probably on everyone's list. I know it's ALWAYS on my list, year after year. I feel like it is part of being a blogger though, and trying to get your site out there. I just feel like I repeat my self a lot, and when I comment I want it to be somewhat meaningful and not generic. I read a post awhile back which got me thinking on it too. The post is by Kelly at Effortlessly Reading. Go take a look at it. Now when I comment I tend to look at it for a minute and see if it's something I would find meaningful and would be glad that someone took the time to actually type out what they are thinking.
Write my reviews for books right after I finish reading them
I use to do this a lot when I first started my blog. I would read the book, and then sit down and write. It was easier that way, and I was able to review every book I read because I didn't forget what happened. Last year, I'll admit was a pretty bad blogging and reviewing year for me. I barely kept up with reading, and what I did read I barely reviewed. So this year I want to go back to how I was when I first started.
Keep up with my challenges
Again this is something I do every year. I sign up for challenges, and the rest of the year I pretty much ignore them. I really want to try this year to keep up with all the ones I signed up for. Maybe, by doing this I will get more books read. I said maybe.
Be a better blogger
I think I've started off bad for this one because this post is going up a little late. Starting now though I really want to do better at the whole blogging thing then I did the past year or so. When I started I was really good I posted things daily. I kept up with stuff, but then I found (or he found me) my darling husband, Ryan in 2011, and then I had someone. I had a life outside of my computer. While I loved that...being someones someone my little blog here paid the price for it. I think now that my wedding and everything is over I can return to it. Ryan, knows how much I love books. Our bedroom kind of speaks for me. lol! Hopefully, I'll get back in the groove of things here.

Book Review: Mind Games by Kiersten White

MY THOUGHTS:

I wanted, wanted, wanted to love this book so much because it had all the aspects I love in a book the spies, powers, and academies. Somewhere along the line it fell short for me. Maybe, it was that I'd felt like I had experienced this plot before. Push the movie anyone? Seers, readers, companies wanting to use people and their abilities? I understand that it's going to be done over and over again, but if that is the case give it some little thing that's going to make it stand out. Make me want to feel for the characters that are in these horrible circumstances. Where I loved Evie and pretty much every character in the Paranormalcy series, I couldn't bring myself to love these characters. They had this co-dependency on each other. Annie needed Sofia to stay at the school, Sofia needed Annie to keep her from falling deeper into her thoughts, it just kept going. I didn't care much for Eden when she did show up. It felt like James was pretty much using all the girls. There just wasn't a character I cared for until the very, very end.

The flipping back and forth between Fia and Annie and past and present with each chapter hurt my head a little. I mean having to remember what was going on 2 or 3 chapters back to understand the chapter I was reading. It just didn't work well for me. (Now this just sounds confusing)

The only thing that saved this book from its death with me was the twist at the end. What an end! It'll keep me reading the series to see what happens.

This was definitely not the Paranormalcy Series. Anyone who says other wise is a liar. I'm hoping that maybe it's just a first book thing for this series, and that Perfect Lies, the second book, will recover from the wounds that were Mind games.

MY THOUGHTS:

Going into this story I didn't know what to expect like everyone else I was expecting a Thumbelina like experience. (I use to love that movie when I was younger.) That is definitely the opposite of what I got. Yes, Lina was tiny, but that's about as far as the similarities went. Starting off I thought that it was going to be this cute, fluffy read with pixies and the main MC finding love. I guess in a way it was, but I also found it to be much more. What I took away from it is that you should be happy with the skin you in, size doesn't always matter, looks don't always matter it's the personality people fall in love with.

It was kind of fun to see that a reality tv show was part of a plot in the book. Although I'm not a fan of the bachelor or bachelorette that's kind of what it was like, but it was dealing with the very first of her kind. I really would have liked to learn more about the 6 different guys. I felt it was focused mostly on Row, a little on Blue, and not much on the others. We find out why closer to the end of the book though.

I loved Lina as a main character. Her cute little charming self and her willingness not to give up. There were times if I were her where I would have been like forget it, but she kept fighting even when crap was at rock bottom. I think it was her love for Jack that kept her going.

The one thing that was kind of out of place for me was the beginning of the story where she was fighting or training with the falcon. Why? It never showed back up in the story as far I could see. Is it something that will be explained more in an upcoming book?
