Book to Movie: The Fault in Our Stars Edition

I'm sure as of now everyone has seen the awesomeness that is The Fault in our Stars movie trailer. If you haven't then why the hell not?

So now that you have seen it what do you think about it?
I think it looks awesome in a sad kind of way. I know everyone has said that if they've read the book they've cried. If they've watched this trailer they had tears. I'm going to say that I'm really not some soul-less person but I didn't cry. Then again it takes A LOT to make me cry at movies or while reading books. (People cried during titanic. I just wanted the movie to be over.) Maybe, once I see the whole movie I'll talk a different talk.

My Movie review (Once it comes out)
Here is the IMDB page for The Fault in our Stars

Are you a book addict quiz from Bittersweet Enchantment

So I think most of us book bloggers are just a smidge bit addicted. I thought these were fun questions so here are my answers either yes or no...

  1. Own more than 300 books (physical and/or ebooks)
We all know this is a big YES especially with my kindle
  2. Stay up really late to finish a book, all the while thinking "just one more chapter and then I'll quit."
Well duh...YES..I did this with Last Sacrifice.
  3. Reading while sitting on the toilet. (come on...I know you've all done this. hehe)
NO..although I have them sitting on my toilet lid.
  4. Cried in public while reading a sad part of your book.
No...I don't really cry when I read, but there are a few where I've come very close.
  5. Wished or dreamt you could live in a certain book and be dating/married to a certain character.
    YES...can we say VA.
  6. Squealed like a fan-girl while in a store in the book section, and noticed others looking at you funny.
    NO..I scream inside though.
  7. Read a book while dining at a restaurant.
NO..I've been known to take them in the car with me
  8. Have more books in your TBR pile than you'd ever finish reading in the next 25 years.
YES...but I don't care because I love looking at them on my shelf.
  9. Bought a book solely based on the cover alone.
YES..aren't we all a little guilty of this?
  10. Walked while reading a book, not really looking where your going.
    YES...with my kindle
  11. Skipped meals because you didn't realize the time while reading.
    No..
  12. Bought a bookmark because it matched one of your books.
NO, but I use to buy bookmarks that were pretty.
  13. Try to convert your NON-reading friends to read the same books as you and get upset when they turn you down.
YES..Aubrey I'm talking about you...I gave her a copy of A touch mortal, and she has yet to finish it.
  14. Literally yelled or cursed at the book when there was a part you hated or that shocked you.
LOL..YES..I get weird looks from the husband
  15. Own book merchandise, like buttons, t-shirts, totes, bookish jewelry.
YES...I have 3 or so twilight shirts, 1 hunger games shirt, and a deity shirt I won.
  16. Would pay GOOD $$$ to get a ARC of a book before anyone else.
NO..as much as I would want to
  17. Has meet your favorite author and have signed copies of their book(s)
    YES...Richelle Mead
  18. Have literally hide someplace to read so no one could bother you.
    NO..lol if I could I would
  19. Have read while in the pool/hot tub/ or bathtub.
    YES...bathtub..I do this almost nightly..because it's relaxing
  20. Have written a letter to your favorite author and got a reply back.
    NO...does twitter count?
  21. Have been over your limit on checked out books at the library.
NO I rarely use the library though
  22. Have spent more than 100 dollars on books in one day.
YES..sadly I believe I have, but when you shop HPB it's kind of hard not to.
  23. Got upset when you see someone treat a book badly.
YES, lol we were moving my books from one room to another a few months ago, and the husband kept dropping them, and I was like really?
  24. Could live without TV and Internet for a month or two, and only being allowed to read.
YES, I honestly think I could do that because with neither of those I would be inclined to read more.
  25. Last but not least, make up dream casts for your favorite books.
NO, only because I'm horrible remembering names.
Total=14 Yes
14-10 Points: You like to read but don't feel bad if you haven't in a while. You're more likely to wait and read new books once everyone else has. You buy books on occasion but not all the time.

MeMe: Follow Friday: Book Spine Poetry

Time for Book Spine Poetry again! Take a picture of your book spines spelling out something epic.

This took me a bit of time to find what I liked and sounded right to me.
In my teen years I wrote a lot of poetry (most sucked), and I always had to have it sound just right
and rhyme so here is what I came up with....
"Through her eyes
Once,
Forgotten,
The hidden,
Deadly little lies."

Top Ten Tuesday: Worlds I'd Never Want To Live In

Hi everybody! How's everyone's week been going?

If you want to see all the other top ten post head on over to The Broke and the Bookish.

WORLDS I WOULD'T WANT TO LIVE IN
  1. The Hunger games
I think this is pretty obvious for reasons that are well obvious.
  2. The Water Wars
Fighting for water doesn't sound like fun.
  3. Enclave
I don't think I could live underground and not be somebody until a certain age.
  4. Matched
I couldn't have the government telling me who to marry
  5. Dualed
    Kill or be killed....

CHARACTERS I WOULDN'T WANT TO BE
Let me explain why I chose these girls even though they all have some swoon-worthy guys.
  1. Juliette from Shatter Me
She's locked up in the beginning of this series, and her touch is lethal.
  2. Claire from Nobody
    She's basically invisible to everyone
  3. Mia from If I stay
She lost her family in an accident
  4. Katniss from Hunger Games
    Again obvious
  5. Lina from Damselfly
She's an experiment whose a 6 inch person, and they keep her locked up like a pet.

Book Review: The Dead and Buried by Kim Harrington

AUTHOR: Kim Harrington
PUBLISHER: Scholastic Point

PAGES: 295

SERIES/STAND ALONE: Stand Alone

SOURCE: Bought
OUTLINE:
Jade loves the house she's just moved into with her family. She doesn't even mind being the new girl at the high school: It's a fresh start, and there's that one guy with the dreamy blue eyes. . . . But then things begin happening. Strange, otherworldly things. Jade's little brother claims to see a glimmering girl in his room. Jade's jewelry gets moved around, as if by an invisible hand. Kids at school whisper behind her back like they know something she doesn't. Soon, Jade must face an impossible fact: that her perfect house is haunted. Haunted by a ghost who's seeking not just vengeance, but the truth. The ghost of a girl who ruled Jade's school — until her untimely death last year. It's up to Jade to put the pieces together before her own life is at stake. As Jade investigates the mystery, she discovers that her new friends in town have more than a few deep, dark secrets. But is one of them a murderer?

MY THOUGHTS
First off, I have to say I need to read Kim Harrington's debut book Clarity and  the sequel Perception. I'm all about the ghost and the powers one can have. So with that being said it's no wonder that I enjoyed The Dead and Buried. Throw in a vengeful ghost and a little mystery as to who killed her and why and BOOM you have a story. I'm sure it's been done before, but it's the way the author writes it.
"I think people, by nature, want to believe that there's good in everyone. That if you peel back the layers of the onion you'll find and explanation, an excuse, a justification. The bully is bullied by his own father. The bad girl is ignored by her parents and just wants attention, even if it's negative." -pg 190
The characters have to be enjoyable, the plot has to make since and come together nicely. You know all that stuff. :)  I believe that Kim Harrington did a nice job of that. Even though in the back of my mind and about 60-70 pages in I had this feeling who the killer already was, but there were times I was skeptical. Needless to say I was right about the killer. It didn't change the feelings I had for the book.

More to come...

Blog Tour: A Little too Hot Guest Post

If you could jump into a book, and live in that world which would it be?
from Lisa Desrochers
You know what? This, I’ve decided, is going to be my superpower…you know, when we all get to pick one. So…let’s narrow this down. Process of elimination…

Panem from Hunger Games is definitely out. President Snow is scary…and even if I lived in the Capitol where I *might* not get blown up, I don’t want purple skin or anything. Although hanging out with Lenny Kravitz would super cool…but totally not worth purple skin.

The Wardrobe might be kind of cool. I mean…Ben Barnes Prince Caspian is in there…but so is the White Witch. And it’s really cold because of her. And I don’t like to be cold. I also don’t like nasty, evil witches, so…Which makes me think about Hogwarts…where there are also nasty evil witches, but of a totally different kind. I think Luna Lovegood and I could actually be besties…which means I’d be friends with Harry, so…maybe He Who Shall Not Be Named wouldn’t be quite so scary…or
He would just kill us all… What if my being there, like, changed the space-time continuum and screwed up the whole balance of power and He Who Shall Not Be Named ended up killing Harry instead of the other way around and…

So, then, that leaves Middle Earth. If I stayed the heck away from Frodo and Mount Doom, how much could I really screw things up, right? And there Legolas. Legolasssssssss……… What? Oh…sorry. *blushes* Yep, Middle Earth it is. Here I come, Leggy!

Description… Lexie Banks has. Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years … and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome. But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt … and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the- eyes deacon … only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way. Worse, he sees right through the walls she’s built over these last eight years, right into her heart and the secrets she’s guarding. Blogger Resolutions 2014

I know I'm kind of late getting this post up, but oh hell I don't have a reason really.
I'm hoping I can stick with these all year. So far I think I'm doing pretty good.
Except for maybe the 5th one because well I'm late on getting this one up.
  1. Read the books I've started in the past, but put down for reasons un-known.
This is a big one for me because I hate, hate to DNF books. I say I don't DNF books I just put them aside for a long break. This year I want to actually get back to them. Some of those books are The Scorpio Races, The Forest of Hands and Teeth, Delirium, the duff, and I'm sure there are a few others.
  2. Comment, Comment, Comment
I know that this one is probably on everyone's list. I know it's ALWAYS on my list, year after year. I feel like it is part of being a blogger though, and trying to get your site out there. I just  feel like I repeat my self a lot, and when I comment I want it to be somewhat meaningful and not generic. I read a post awhile back which got me thinking on it too. The post is by Kelly at Effortlessly Reading. Go take a look at it. Now when I comment I tend to look at it for a minute and see if it's something I would find meaningful and would be glad that someone took the time to actually type out what they are thinking.
  3. Write my reviews for books right after I finish reading them
I use to do this a lot when I first started my blog. I would read the book, and then sit down and write. It was easier that way, and I was able to review every book I read because I didn't forget what happened. Last year, I'll admit was a pretty bad blogging and reviewing year for me. I barely kept up with reading, and what I did read I barely reviewed. So this year I want to go back to how I was when I first started.
  4. Keep up with my challenges
Again this is something I do every year. I sign up for challenges, and the rest of the year I pretty much ignore them. I really want to try this year to keep up with all the ones I signed up for. Maybe, by doing this I will get more books read. I said maybe.
  5. Be a better blogger
I think I've started off bad for this one because this post is going up a little late. Starting now though I really want to do better at the whole blogging thing then I did the past year or so. When I started I was really good I posted things daily. I kept up with stuff, but then I found (or he found me) my darling husband, Ryan in 2011, and then I had someone. I had a life outside of my computer. While I loved that...being someones someone my little blog here paid the price for it. I think now that my wedding and everything is over I can return to it. Ryan, knows how much I love books. Our bedroom kind of speaks for me. lol! Hopefully, I'll get back in the groove of things here.

Are some of your '14 goals the same as mine? How are you doing with them so far? Let me know!

Book Review: Mind Games by Kiersten White

AUTHOR: Kiersten White
PUBLISHER: HarperTeen

PAGES: 230

SERIES/STAND ALONE: Series
SOURCE: Bought
OUTLINE:

Fia was born with flawless instincts. Her first impulse, her gut feeling, is always exactly right. Her sister, Annie, is blind to the world around her—except when her mind is gripped by strange visions of the future.

Trapped in a school that uses girls with extraordinary powers as tools for corporate espionage, Annie and Fia are forced to choose over and over between using their abilities in twisted, unthinkable ways…or risking each other’s lives by refusing to obey.

MY THOUGHTS:
I wanted, wanted, wanted to love this book so much because it had all the aspects I love in a book the spies, powers, and academies. Somewhere along the line it fell short for me. Maybe, it was that I'd felt like I had experienced this plot before. Push the movie anyone? Seers, readers, companies wanting to use people and their abilities? I understand that it's going to be done over and over again, but if that is the case give it some little thing that's going to make it stand out. Make me want to feel for the characters that are in these horrible circumstances. Where I loved Evie and pretty much every character in the Paranormalcy series, I couldn't bring myself to love these characters. They had this co-dependency on each other. Annie needed Sofia to stay at the school, Sofia needed Annie to keep her from falling deeper into her thoughts, it just kept going. I didn't care much for Eden when she did show up. It felt like James was pretty much using all the girls. There just wasn't a character I cared for until the very, very end.

The flipping back and forth between Fia and Annie and past and present with each chapter hurt my head a little. I mean having to remember what was going on 2 or 3 chapters back to understand the chapter I was reading. It just didn't work well for me. (Now this just sounds confusing)

The only thing that saved this book from its death with me was the twist at the end. What an end! It'll keep me reading the series to see what happens.

This was definitely not the Paranormalcy Series. Anyone who says other wise is a liar. I'm hoping that maybe it's just a first book thing for this series, and that Perfect Lies, the second book, will recover from the wounds that were Mind games.

Book Review: Damselfly by Jennie Bates Bozic

AUTHOR: Jennie Bates Bozic
PUBLISHER: ?

PAGES: 242

SERIES/STAND ALONE:
SOURCE: Netgalley
BLOG TOUR: Ya bound
OUTLINE:

In 2065, the Lilliput Project created Lina - the first six-inch-tall winged girl - as the solution to a worldwide energy and food crisis. Isolated in a compound amidst the forests of Denmark, Lina has grown up aware of only one purpose: learn how to survive in a world filled with hawks, bumblebees, and loneliness. However, on the eve of her sixteenth birthday, she discovers that she’s not the only teenager her size. Six 'Toms' were created shortly after Lina, and now her creators need to prove to the world that tiny people are the next logical step in human evolution. In other words, they need to prove that reproduction is possible.

Um. No thanks. Lina's already fallen in love with a boy she met online named Jack. Only he has no idea that thumbelina1847 could literally fit inside his heart.

When her creators threaten to hurt Jack unless she chooses a husband from among the ‘Toms’, Lina agrees to star in a reality TV series. Once the episodes begin to air, the secret of her size is out. Cut off from any contact with the outside world, Lina assumes Jack is no longer interested. After all, what guy would want to date a girl he can’t even kiss?

Slowly, very slowly, she befriends the six young men who see her as their only ticket to happiness. Perhaps she can make just one guy’s dream of love and companionship come true. But her creators have a few more twists in store for her that she never thought possible.

She’s not the only one playing to the cameras.
MY THOUGHTS:
Going into this story I didn't know what to expect like everyone else I was expecting a Thumbelina like experience. (I use to love that movie when I was younger.) That is definitely the opposite of what I got. Yes, Lina was tiny, but that's about as far as the similarities went. Starting off I thought that it was going to be this cute, fluffy read with pixies and the main MC finding love. I guess in a way it was, but I also found it to be much more. What I took away from it is that you should be happy with the skin you in, size doesn't always matter, looks don't always matter it's the personality people fall in love with.

It was kind of fun to see that a reality tv show was part of a plot in the book. Although I'm not a fan of the bachelor or bachelorette that's kind of what it was like, but it was dealing with the very first of her kind. I really would have liked to learn more about the 6 different guys. I felt it was focused mostly on Row, a little on Blue, and not much on the others. We find out why closer to the end of the book though.

I loved Lina as a main character. Her cute little charming self and her willingness not to give up. There were times if I were her where I would have been like forget it, but she kept fighting even when crap was at rock bottom. I think it was her love for Jack that kept her going.

The one thing that was kind of out of place for me was the beginning of the story where she was fighting or training with the falcon. Why? It never showed back up in the story as far I could see. Is it something that will be explained more in an upcoming book?
