Reading Challenge: 2015 Prequel and Sequel Challenge

Guidelines

The challenge runs from January 1st to December 31st.

Any books started before Jan. 1 will not count.

All books in a series count for points (see below)

Novellas count, either prequels or sequels (i.e. #0.5, #1.5, #2.5, etc).

Books can be of any publication date. They don’t have to be released in 2015.

In order to get 10 points for a completed series, there must be at least 3 full-length books in the series.

You can still get sequel points for a duology, you just can’t get the 10 bonus points for finishing it.

Sign-ups will be open until December 1st, 2015.

To join, add the URL of your challenge post to the linky widget. (If you’d like to wait, it’s ok to use your blog URL and send us your link as soon you get the post up)

At the end of each quarter (every three months), we will post a linky for you to add your sequel reviews to. The linky will rotate between our blogs on alternate quarters, so you can link up at Novel Heartbeat at the end of March and September, and over at Writer Grrl Reads at the end of June and December. If you have a ton of reviews for the quarter, you can always link to wherever you’re keeping track of your progress. This will make it much easier for us – not only is it less posting, but it will be easier to keep track of how many points everyone has.

Point System

For each prequel and sequel read this year, points will be awarded as follows:

1 point for each prequel or sequel novella read and reviewed
2 points for each full-length sequel read and reviewed
10 points for completing and reviewing a full series (doesn’t require novellas)*†
**You do not get points for the first book in a series

To get points, you must review the book/novella somewhere. If you want to earn points, please link up your reviews at the end of each month, and enter the number of points earned (we will give examples in the linky). Each point earned is an entry into the giveaway at the end of the year for all participants who completed the challenge. So, the more sequels you read, the better your chances of winning the giveaway! Plus, we are also considering one prize for the “overacheiver award” — the person who gets the most points!

*The 10 bonus points is for finishing a full series. That means that all books must be published (unless you got an advance reader copy early). i.e. If you are completely caught up on a series, and the next book is not releasing until 2016 (and you do not have an advance reader copy), that does not count toward the 10 bonus points.

†If you started the series before 2015, you can still get the bonus points for finishing it if you reviewed the other books in the series at some point. For example: You read The Hunger Games in 2014, but read Catching Fire and Mockingjay in 2015 – you would get 2 points for both sequels and 10 bonus points for finishing the series (14 points total). You don’t have to start the series in 2015 to get the bonus points.

10-25 points: Newbie

25-50 points: Amateur

51-75 points: Advanced

76-100 points: Professional

101+ points: Veteran

Guidelines

> The challenge will run from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015. Each month will have its own link form so you will be able to share your book reviews. You do not have to review the books you read to participate, but only those who read/reviewed at least one dystopian book will be able to participate in the giveaway (you can track your reading without the reviews with Goodreads, Shelfari etc.). You can link book reviews for months that are already gone as the linkies will be open all year round!
> Books that count in this challenge must include any form of post-apocalyptic theme (book sites like Goodreads are good sources of genre information; also see below). The books must be full-length. Short stories and novellas (.5 novels etc.) do NOT count as one book, so please stick to that! When you read 4, I can count it as one, but definitely not before.
> All formats allowed.
> Rereads allowed (but not the same book five times in a year!).
> It does not matter whether it's a series or a stand-alone book.
> If you are participating, grab the challenge button from below and post it on you blog. You can also make a post with the header (the code is also below). Please include the link back to this post so others will be able to participate as well.
> If you will participate, put the sign-up link to your blog post (about the challenge) or blog (for the button) directly into the linky below. Sign-ups will be open until December 15, 2015.
> You do not have to list your books in advance, go and do as you please. Read as many as you want and whenever you want, as long as you have fun!
> Info about the giveaway will be available in December 2015.
> Do not cheat with books of other themes/genres/topics because I do check!

I think I'm going to start low at first with just being a recruit, and then will see where that takes me.

Reading Challenge: 2015 Debut Author Challenge

Reading Guidelines

Challenge Objectives:

To introduce readers to this year’s wonderful group of debut authors.
To challenge readers to read 12 or more (or less! It’s up to you!) middle grade, young adult, and new adult debuts this year.

Challenge Rules:

You must post your thoughts on each debut book you read in order for it to count towards the challenge. You can post anywhere: your blog, Goodreads, Amazon, YouTube, Tumblr, etc.
You can join the challenge whenever you want.
The debuts must have a publishing date in 2015 and must have been read between January 1, 2015 and January 31, 2016 (this extra month allows readers adequate time to read December debuts) in order to count.
Each review gives you an entry into the monthly prize pack drawings. Make sure you post the links to my monthly link-ups. I always post these link-ups on the first day of the month, without fail.
This challenge is open internationally, as are the monthly prize packs.
I don’t care what language you write your reviews in, I just need to know which book you have reviewed so I can verify your entry. When you post your link, please include the title in English.
Use the hashtag #DAC2015 so we can all see what everyone’s up to!

Which Books Count:

The book must be classified as a middle grade, young adult, or new adult title.
The book must be the author’s MG/YA/NA 2015 debut. (If the author has published adult fiction before, but this is their first MG/YA/NA book EVER it still counts. If the author has published a YA book before and this is their first MG or NA book, it does not count. We are reading the author’s first book for young people, excluding picture books.)
Self-published books do not count, so if the author has self-published a MG/YA/NA book before and this is their first book published by a traditional publisher it counts toward the challenge.
ARCs are fine, but only if you read them the year they are published. For example, if it’s 2015 but you read and reviewed an ARC of debut coming out in 2016, it does not count for 2015’s challenge (because the challenge is for 2015 debuts) and it will not count for 2016’s challenge (because you must read a 2016 debut in 2016 for it to count). This way participants who do not have access to ARCs are not at a disadvantage.
Since this challenge is International, some books will be debuts in some countries and not in others. This can be tricky and put some books into a gray area, so here’s what we will do. If the book came out this year in your country for the first time, even though it was available elsewhere, then you can count it.
